How Many DQF (LD8) On B787

Sun Jun 28, 2015 5:58 pm

Hi folks,

I wanted to know how many DQFs (LD8) can be loaded on a B787? I know you can fit 28 LD3s (AKE), but curious about the DQFs. Thanks

Brgds

As far as I know 14, as you can load only one DQF in place of 2 AKEs

Does the 787 take even take DQFs? The DQF is two LD2 (DPN,DPE) cans. I know the 747 and A330 can take those cans.. Of course I could be wrong, just from my experiences.

Yes, any aircraft that can take two LD3s across can take a LD8. Not the most efficient use of space, but it fits.

I am not familiar with the LD8. Why is it less efficient than two LD3s?
...are we there yet?

An LD8 is equivalent to two LD2s and has a volume of 6.88 m3.

An LD6 is equivalent to two LD3s and has a volume of 8.95 m3.

So the LD6 offers almost 31% more volume by fully utilizing the hold space of two LD3 positions whereas an LD8 would not.

I know in the DL ground operations manual A330s and 747s can not have the LD2,LD4,and LD8 cans are not allowed to be loaded. Is this the same at most carriers and those that have the 787?

While at US I heard of DQF's being loaded on A330s occasionally. Can't remember specifically what was in the GOM regarding that though...

DQF's were specifically designed for use on 767's, they fit the cargo hold contour of the 767 and make full use of the available space. They are not meant to be used on other aircraft types, unless absolutely necessary. Using them on 787's would be a waste of space.

We would ferry those cans to other stations that needed them, CLT and MIA to be exact. According to the FAA there not to be loaded
