Acars System On Airbus

ACARS(aircraft addressing and reporting system) is installed in both Airbus and Boeing as I know...

1).Is there principle differences between these two systems and their operations?

2).According to my knowledge it is used to exchange info between aircraft and ground( may be satellites will get involved). Is there any other uses from it?

3) I have heard that in MH370 B777 aircraft pilot had turned off it and even if it is turned off ACARS maintains a link between the aircraft and ground and Inmarsat uses that link to locate the aircraft by using BFO (burst frequency offset) and BTO (burst time offset). How to turn off the ACARS as that pilot did? Is there a way to turn it off permanently?

I know it is a bunch of problems and please help me to solve my unexplained problems...

ACARS is really a network with many different ways for ground stations to access it (ATC and Airlines use different ACARS gateways). Aircraft can access the ACARS network via different radio links, VHF/HF/low orbit, and geostationary satellites.

We also can use it to pass messages aircraft to aircraft.

I think a lot of that is conjecture not supported by any facts, it is not really worth commenting on.

There is no difference in the system between Boeing and Airbus. What is different is the interface. Both provide Bendix, Collins and Honeywell ACARS systems and it's up to the aircraft owner to pick which they want. There are differences in the menus and interface between the systems but the operation is the same.

It is up to the operator to determine the "pecking order" for communications. Some operators if they conduct mainly overland operations in Europe or the North America would most likely not use the SAT function, while oceanic operators would have the SAT link as an option. As ZEKE stated you can also go plane to plane for comm.

Since no one knows what he did, it would be pure specualtion and worthless. There are many ways to disable ACARS.

every one tries to escape this question when I raised to them.. plz tell me how?

Is it a one like internet? There are internet providers (as an example inmarsat) and a user can log on to it if its' device is compatible with it. In our case we can use VHF,HF,satellites what ever we like... Am I correct?

On 9/11 dispatchers used it to alert crews to ensure the cockpit door was secure.
