Spotting at BWI?

Wed Apr 17, 2019 1:54 pm

I was wondering if there were any fellow spotters at BWI, and if this thread could be used to talk about neat liveries (not many of those at BWI other than Southwest), cool planes, etc. Thanks!

Also cool places to spot other than the Dixon park.

Like a month ago in some nasty wind that forced all operations to use 15R I was spotting from next to the BWI Trail bridge over I195 watching arrivals and departures. Not a bad spot there, but pretty rare to catch arrivals on that runway. A whole lot of "position and hold" followed by "takeoff no delay next guy's 4 miles out" listening to liveATC.

Neat. Yeah. I've been trying to get out there, but weather just not cooperating. I heard that you can spot from the top of the garage when they're using the 15s.

But I don't think you can spot arrivals to 28/10 or the other one, forgot which on that is. I can sometimes see departures on 28 from the Dixon park.

Speaking of which, I saw an OAI 777 take off from 28 in less RWY than a 737.

My mom and I got lost once and ended up here, in the intersection of 15R-33L and 10-28: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1698299 ... a=!3m1!1e3
It was awesome spotting until we were asked to leave.
There is a pre-security observation deck between concourses B&C, but it looks like you're behind glass the whole time. Unfortunately, considering every a.net photo at BWI from the last 10 years is from the Dixon park, there probably aren't many places to get a really good pic unless you have access to the airfield.
Believe me, I try to get decent pictures every time I fly out of BWI, but it's often quite difficult if you want a.net quality photos.
Next flight: August 1: WN2002 BWI-MSY B737

Been to both the observation deck and the Dixon park. True about every photo being from the Dixon park. I heard when the 15s are in use, as they are today, you can go up to the top of the garages and watch the arrivals come in below you. LOL the way you said "in the intersection of 15R-33L and 10-28" for a moment I thought you meant standing on the runway!
