Does anyone else just love the sound of distant turboprops?

There is something I find so soothing about hearing a Q400 fly over my home in the middle of the night. The hum is like a lullaby hushing me to sleep, almost like a train rolling by. I will miss the sound sorely when Horizon eventually retire them.

I spend most of my time in the German city of Cottbus. Every now and then sometime at night we have a AN-24 cruising overhead going south from Sweden to places like Hungary or even down to Northern Africa.
I always love when that happens. It’s gotten rare though now that I think of it...

I like the sound of distant propeller aircraft in general.

Where I live, there's someone who seems to regularly flies a Cessna around the town every weekend, and I'm pretty sure it's the same person because it is always same aircraft type (172 Skyhawk), same path, and usually same time schedule. But different registration number, so it's likely a rental aircraft. BTW, I'm just getting the path map, aircraft info, etc. from FR24.

I'm studying in Valladolid, Spain, and can hear the ATRs of TAP & Air Europa at altitude! Usually going about their business to Bilbao.

I grew up in Hartford CT (BDL) - I miss the sounds of Allegheny CV-580s, Eastern L-188 Electras on the ramp and taking off .. I think they were both powered by Allison engines ..

Last night, around midnight, there was a noticeably loud hum of a prop driven aircraft over northern England. I had to fire up Flightradar24 to check what it was. It grabbed my attention because the noise was quite loud and deep, it sounded like something was flying over much lower than we're used to.

Turns out it was an An-12 a few miles away cruising at around FL240! Man those things are loud!

A perspective from this superannuated plane spotter: the distinct sound of the Rolls Royce Dart is still very much in my mind. Living along the flight path to Schiphol as a 10-year-old, I saw many interesting planes from my 14th-floor apartment, including the (then) brand-new KLM and Pan Am Boeing 747s. Interspersed among those giants were the NLM Fokker F-27 Friendships. Ah, the sound of the Dart!

Although not a turboprop, I love hearing the sound of Doc, the restored B-29 flying around my city. It has been over a year since its first flight, but I still find myself running outdoors every time I hear it fly over my house. Doc's home base airport is Wichita, KS.
