B737 MAX should it stay or should it go?

Tue Apr 30, 2019 8:20 pm

[img]So the story goes like this:

Big fan of aviation, somewhat of a moderate view on A vs B
Always appreciated Boeing for their product and pilot POV of flying. Also appreciated Boeing’s heritage. Always appreciated Airbus from a business POV.

Shocked at seeing Boeing response to the Lion Air and ET crashes, have been rooting for the grounding of the plane ever since Lion Air. Absolutely terrified of the prospect of flying it on Ryanair, LOT, Tarom etc. Absymal design, terrible safety culture. Can’t believe how low Boeing and the FAA have fallen. Complete disgrace and reevaluating my appreciation of Boeing all together.

Also contemplating my options as a passenger to avoid the 737 MAX indefinitely.

3 years ago I decided my new car’s license plate should be B 737 MAX (real fan, right?). Proof:

Really think of changing it at my own expense. What do you guys think?

It would be sad to see the 737 MAX go, but that may mean Boeing would have to design a new airplane from scratch. However, if any modifications were made to the 737 MAX, I wonder if raising it a bit higher off the ground (giving the plane the same ground clearance as the A320) would work. Other ideas I have in mind would be to redesign the horizontal stabilizer. I remember seeing a video on YouTube about the 737 MAX and the bigger engine design causing the nose to pitch up too high, and the narrator said that one of the solutions was a bigger redesigned horizontal stabilizer. Boeing instead went with MCAS, which hopefully will receive the fixes such that the plane would go back into service in the coming months.

Or what if the pilots were to leave the flaps extended longer after takeoff while climbing (like on the A320) compared to previous generation 737s.

The MAX will be fine once the issues are properly addressed. Boeing will be 5 million lighter and a number of sernior managers, including the CEO will be out of work. Everything works out in the end.

Only 5 million, some managers and a ceo. that's a bargain for around 300 dead
We have to keep planes airworthy. That doesn't mean they have to fly.

The airline business is scattered with dead bodies. What;s your point here?

I guess I should have held up my sarcasm sign. And perhaps 5 million was a typo for the dollar amount.

I mean, that's all down to personal preference, so not really sure why you need to ask here. If you really want to know, though, unless the license plate brings you traumatic experiences, I'd say save your money, but that's just me.

The Boeing 737 max should stay. But only if they can get the issues sorted out with it. And in my opinion it depends if it is worth it for Boeing to keep the program running with airlines still deciding whether to keep there orders with Boeing or go with any plane like Airbus.

Its no different than having a license plate that said DC10 in 1979. The MAX plane itself will be a fine enough plane and everyone (except a.net nerds) will forget about it soon enough, just like the DC10.
When wasn't America great?
