I just watched an updated video (Part VI) where they discuss what they've done to model Airports around the world. They claim to have included every active airport in the world. Wow. Anyway, it's just amazing. I never play games. But I will buy this one.... and the stuff I need to make it work (Yoke, Foot pedals, etc..)

They released the anticipated hardware specs a couple weeks ago and looks about what I would have expected. My current machine is a Ryzen 2600X/RX580 which seems in the middle ground so I'm not worried but I was probably going to upgrade to a navi card soon anyway. I'm interested to see how it will do on Xbox. The bottom end of the specs is around Original/S performance, so I wouldn't bet on that running higher than 900p, maybe only 720. One X is close to the middle and will probably be good for 1080/30. I don't think Series X will compare to an RVII/2080 but it'll definitely be well past the "recommended" tier and should run 4K/60 with ray tracing.

Great. My PC is just a tad better than the minimum requirements. Time for a new system!

About 30 years ago I had a wish one day Flight Simulator would be this realistic. I'm so happy this is coming true. Just for FS2020 I bought a new desktop pc with AMD 3700X and Nvidia RTX 2080 and 32GB of RAM.

Nothing has been said about delays so as far as anyone know it's still on track for this year. We might hear something at the Xbox event they're having next month. I know the console version will come later but they can give a first look at it running on the Series X and give a more solid launch window like fall for PC and next spring/summer/whenever for Xbox.

There is no official release date as of yet but release is expected towards the late fall/end of the year.

It appears they'll be launching a marketplace for user created content similar to the one they have for Minecraft so that's good to hear because that setup works well https://www.windowscentral.com/how-micr ... nd-content

I got an alpha invite a few weeks ago and can't say much because of the NDA other than I really like what I've seen. Final alpha build drops this week and closed beta should be happening towards the end of the month.

What I haven´t understood about this new FS is if there are differences between the PC and the Xbox version.
A good Gaming PC or Laptop cost well above a 1000 Euros, more in the 1200/1300 euros range for Laptops, whereas a Xbox can be bought for less than 300 euros.
Will the two versions be equally impressive and detailed or is the Xbox version somewhat watered down?

I'm trying to find a list of aircraft for each version. Until I clicked that link I had no idea there was even going to be a 787! For heavy metal I was only aware of the A320 and 747. Although, its probably safe bet that there'll be a 737 in there.

Xbox One will probably be in line with the minimum PC specs with One X a bit above that. I don't expect the Series X to be watered down at all.

No 737 at launch. NEO and 748 are the flagships with 78J in the premium edition.

This won't be like older versions where what you get is what you get and then maybe an expansion in a year. There will probably be regular content releases, either free or paid alongside the 3rd party marketplace. You'll also be able to get stuff from higher end editions via DLC and I'm hoping there's a discount on that if you get the standard via game pass which is what I'm doing.

That surprises me. There's been a 737 since I first started way back on FS98. Ah well, if we can get used to no Meigs Field then the loss of the 737 will be fine. No doubt there'll be expansions on the horizon, as you say.

I think I'm going to try the standard edition on Game Pass to see how well my computer runs it and to weigh up whether the Premium deluxe is worth it, I'd only really want it for the 787 and LHR. 18th August suddenly feels so far away.

I'd better get a RAM upgrade ordered! I'm currently running 16gb, I want to up that to 32gb for a better experience.

Is Xbox Game Pass PC(Beta) monthly subscription a must or I can just pre-order FS2020? Don't need 100s of new games.

Anyone know how AI behavior will evolve in FS2020? Will landing AI be assigned to multiple runways based on the volume of existing runways, rather than the direction they are coming from, and same with departing AI, assigning random runways rather than the closest open runway. Likewise, will real SID/STAR plans be used by AI correlating to runway usage? Thinking about this as airports like ORD are evolving to a mostly multi-parallel runway setup, and you won't get the benefit of AFCAD overlay method (FS2002), or STAR runway method (FS2004/FSX) to activate multiple runways. .

I've downloaded the premium edition, almost time to dust off the old CH yoke and pedals! I'm curious what everyone will be using, I tend to fly the jetliners more than the small props so it will be interesting to see what types of add-ons are out there.

They've talked up the AI quite a bit as it's being powered by azure (the main reasn there's limited offline function) so I would say it's just about as close to real as we're gonna get.

In other news they announced some things regarding post-launch development. VR support is coming later in the year on an experimental basis and will initially only work on HP's new windows mixed reality heaset with others coming later. The first paid DLC expansion will include helicopters. And the Xbox version is coming along but so far no launch window. https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-dlc-updates-roadmap

When you say you've downloaded the premium edition, is that just a small installation file or the complete package?

I believe the installation file is only around 20MB but supposedly the whole thing is 150GB and come release day I don't want to lose half the day downloading 150GB ;)

Microsoft has now announced it's going to be available on Steam as well, it is now on the steam store. The question is, which should I get? The XBOX/MS-Store or the Steam Store version (I've got a lot of stuff on Steam and it is preferred but thinking long term here).

I must admit I was a bit disappointed with what is included in the deluxe and premium editions, considering that Premium Deluxe is £50 more than the base game I'd have hoped for more than 10 aircraft and 10 airports, especially considering that LHR and ORD surely should have been in the base game. I did read yesterday however, that MS were originally including more airports and aircraft into the sim but then stopped and removed them as they would be stepping on some of the 3rd party developers. Also before anyone says it, yes I know, we all have different tastes and MSFS has to cater for everyone so while I am not interested in any of the 10 extra aircraft and only want about 4 of the airports there are plenty others that do and that is what is good about MSFS.

I have an Xbox one and looking at the list of aircraft is quite disappointing, there’s a shit tonne of general aviation planes that don’t seem that much different but the only commercial aircraft are the 747-8 and the A320neo.

The 787-10 is a surprise addition (as it wasn't mentioned at first) and comes in the Premium Deluxe version but yeah, I know what you mean regarding the GA. But, as I said earlier, there are lots of folks to cater to and PMDG has already announced that they are making their existing fleets for MSFS2020.

I did hear about some backwards compatibility, I think it was on Eurogamer so hopefully we could at least use older aircraft for the time being. I'd also like to use my PMDG 747-400 since I shelled out nearly £100 for it and haven't managed a single flight given the fact that FSX runs out of memory after an hour or two...

FS 2020 looks spectacular, but I'm concerned that to truly enjoy it will require a monster of a PC, which is not really in my budget right now.
I'm interested to see how it runs on the XBox, particularly the new XBox(X).

This version is undoubtedly spectacular in every aspect I can think of. The flight dynamics of the aircraft will be the final test for everyone and likely the icing on the cake based on what I’ve read for the majority of the planes. For you diehard simmers, I’m working on a Microsoft Flight Simulator history video series that I am really enjoying. I uploaded the trailer (Microsoft Flight Simulator- From Concept to Reality - 1975 to 2020) yesterday that you might like to check out.

YES. This is what I want to know as well.
I want to enjoy FS2020, but I don't want to invest in a ~$2,000+ gaming PC just for one game. I am not a "gamer", so FS2020 would be the only thing I use it for.
I would even be willing to wait and get the new XBox(X) or whatever it's called, as long as the gaming experience is similar and you can add a keyboard and flight controls.

As of right now, most of if not all of the youtubers showcasing the preview of it have only the standard edition copies.

Actually Microsoft recommended hardware is not that expensive. You could build a decent gaming PC for $450-$640 depending on what desktop you have now. Depending on what you have now you may get away with by upgrading video card (or) CPU/MB bundle.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600(vs 1500x) / Motherboard Bundle - $200-$260
RX590 - $180/GTX 1650(vs 970) $170
16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 - $50-$60
250GB SSD - $30-$40
Case/Power Supply - $100+

Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised at the recommended spec. I have a gaming laptop (Dell G5587) and while I know it's obviously not going to run FS2020 at it's very best, it should suffice. I'm going to upgrade my RAM though to the max the laptop can handle, 64gb. No way van I afford a new computer, but upgrading the ram should only cost be around £120.

I will probably wait a year (I have a heavily upgraded copy of FSX on my machine today) so that third-party content can “catch up” with the new sim. I like to be able to simulate real world routes with the right equipment, so having only A320neo, 747-8i, 78J, etc. isn’t super appealing in my opinion.

Let alone the need for good real-world liveries!

Yeah, I think having a good internet connection might be more important than having an ultra high specs gaming kit. The 2 petabytes of data will have to be streamed if we want high quality details, 4k resolution, etc.. We can play offline, but it won't be as nice.

I'm considering buying a PC too. I used to play FSX 10+ years ago, but after my gaming laptop died, I gave up on playing on PC. However, all the videos I've been watching on FS2020 lately really encouraged me to play again. The games looks absolutely fantastic.

MSFS looks great in some regions/areas while other regions/areas (like Sweden, Norway, Finland) looks quite poor so the quality of the scenery seems to be variating quality.

I am excited I have Steam and I have the Microsoft Flight Simulator Steam edition but it says that Windows 10, which sucks because I have Windows 7 on both my tower PC and Laptop, darn I was hoping I could have the chance to play it.

Also I was wondering I am not sure if people have thought of this but is there a Gran Turismo style game but for Airplanes, like Air Racing and so forth, that would be really cool since I do love Gran Turismo.

Anyone good at translating system equivalency between PC and Mac?

I'm running a Mac Mini with Windows 10 through Bootcamp. I'm trying to learn where my system fits with the requirements. These are my specs:

Mac Mini (2018)
Processor: 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Hopefully I won't have to buy a new system to simply run MSFS2020 in minimum settings! But if I must buy a dedicated PC I guess I'll have to.

I can't imagine that equivalency of hardware specs matters here, since you'd be running the game in an emulated environment which would cause a lot of overhead that wouldn't be there on a native Windows box. A graphics and CPU intensive application is not likely to run well at all on a virtual machine, regardless of the specs of the host system.

I didn’t think that Boot camp was a virtual machine. I know Parallels is, but boot camp? I used to run a fully spec’d out version of FSX on bootcamp with excellent performance.

Ah well I stand corrected then - I do not know how the hardware specs would translate. I've switched over to Mac for my work computer since I'm familiar with the underlying Unix OS but I've kept a PC for gaming.

I'd be curious to hear how it goes but my guess is it either won't run at all or will be unplayable. The minimum specs ask for a dedicated GPU with 2GB (vs your integrated with 1.5GB). You're already at the minimum for RAM and I believe the integrated graphics eats into that as well. There's no harm in trying but I'd be prepared to have to buy/build a PC instead. To be fair, a machine that'd run it at medium settings shouldn't cost that much these days.

I appreciate your response, thank you. I'll give it a go and see how it works out. I'd be interested to hear what kind of price point you think a PC should be in order for the sim to play well?

I'm so deep in the Apple ecosystem that this is a brave new world indeed!

It really depends on what kind of performance/visual quality you're looking for. I think something in the Very Good range (https://www.logicalincrements.com/) would probably be able to run the game pretty well at 1080p. I'd probably recommend going for a larger SSD so you can have the OS and game (as well as its cache) fully on it.

Also, since we're so close to launch, you might as well wait until the game launches and see what works well for the graphical settings you might want.

I still haven't seen much on AI traffic development, though a recent YouTube video did show the default ATC directing AI traffic to lower speed. That's going to help with go-arounds!

Only hours to go! I'm excited, despite now doubting my machine's ability to run it in anything other than low settings.

Surely even at lower settings, this'll have better visuals than FSX.

A quick heads up to our UK users, if you ordered it via Steam it will not become available until 4AM UTC, if you ordered via the Microsoft Store you can get it from Midnight. Frankly I think that is appalling, I bought it on Steam last night and was ready to start the long download from Midnight but probably won't be able to get on it until late tomorrow now :(

Agreed. Think I am going to wait a few weeks and save up some money to upgrade my hardware.
