Making an Airliner cutaway model?

Hi
I have always wanted to build a Cutaway model such as that of a Boeing 747 SP. I have done a revell 747-100 model kit but want to make my own of bigger scale like they used to have in travel agents in the 1970s and 80s.

Problem is how do I make the fuselage? Its a difficult shape. How did they make the cutaways they show in travel agents? Any ideas on what materials and how I can shape them?

The internal features such as making seats, lounge, galleys, galley elevator etc are the fun part :)

Here is a 1/72 747 kit you can use as base for an SP conversion.
