North Korea aviation tour 2020

Mon Nov 18, 2019 9:02 pm

Big news! A full North Korean aviation tour for October 2020 has been announced today. Oct 19 to 23, with local flights on Il-18, -62 and 76, An-24 and -148, and of course the Tu-134, -154 (B not M!) and -204. Plus the usual lashings of kimchee, Taedonggang beer, and traditional Korean hospitality. This tour happened four times each in 2012, 2013 and 2014, maybe twice in 2015, once in 2016 plus the one-off Wonsan Air Show (which had 210 Westerners attending, encouraged no doubt by the simultaneous Beer Festival right on site), and there has been one aviation tour since, in 2018. I understand it has become harder to organise because of increased sanctions (which do not cover civil aviation, to be clear), plus Americans have been banned from going to North Korea by the US State Department since about 2017. Anyway, undeterred, the grand aviation tour of North Korea is back in 2020; what's changed is there was still a shot at flying on most of these types in Russia etc, but now this really is it, because I understand even Alrosa are parking their last Tu-154 any day now. Be there and be square!

Am I the only one who finds this advertisement distasteful? I thought this is a discussion forum, not a forum to advertise on behalf of a pariah state.

Tell that to the family of Otto Warmbier.

I think it's super interesting to aviation enthusiasts who might want to go and fly on some old jets. The US incarcerates a quarter of black men (look it up if you don't believe me), does that mean the USA is off limits to me? Aviation is about crossing borders, not reinforcing them.

Its an aviation forum, these aviation tours are full of a.netters and its a relevant topic to discuss on this here discussion forum. And travel to countries that are different to your own is always the most rewarding kind...that's like the point of travel isn't it?

Give us a break and spare us a 4th post.

Also spare us your PC.

This is a site for aviation enthusiasts, and this is big news for anyone willing to fly on their beloved old Soviet jets.

Now that is something, I've been to South Korea but I have never been in the North.
