Airport movie plane spotting

Wed Apr 22, 2020 8:39 pm

Anyone ever "plane spot" the beginning and end credits of the classic 1970 movie Airport? I tried and this is what I spotted:

Northwest - Boeing 720, Boeing 727, Lockheed Electra
North Central - DC-9, Convair CV240
Braniff International - DC-9
Western - Boeing 737
SAS - DC-8

Any corrections or additions welcome.

I don't believe Braniff was a DC-9 operator back then .. maybe in one of the reincarnations. My guess (without seeing a picture) is that it was a BAC 1-11 which Braniff did operate.

You could be right jaybrd, it is seen taxiing just before the end credits finish. The 111 did look sort of similar to the 9.

It is in fact a BAC1-11. Also, the North Central Convairs at the opening and ending credits should be 580's...by the time of the movie all of NC's 440's had been converted to 580-standard IIRC, and they for sure had no 240's remaining.

I never have caught a SAS DC-8! And I just watched the movie last week. Will try to remember to keep a sharper eye next time.
