Air California HQ

Wed May 27, 2020 1:32 am

Does anyone know the address of the old Air Cal HQ before they were bought by AA? Also, any pics of the HQ? Did they have a full training facility there? I have searched everywhere...even NTSB reports, and can't find any information.

3636 Birch St. in Newport Beach.

Don't believe they had much of training as the facility was not that very large as I recall. Just a generic office complex in a suburb really. PSA down in San Diego had significantly larger HQ.

There was also another facility on the west side of the airport.

Also the bigger new glass building opened not long before the merger. It just a bit down the street. from the old offices.

W/R/T training - Don't know the exact timeline, but AirCal did perform FA training at a leased facility in what was then (and perhaps still) known as Executive Park. This is an office/industrial development just to the north of SNA (or, opposite side of the I-405) at MacArthur & Main. When SNA is in it's typical south flow pattern, Executive Park is the last group of buildings flown over on landings to the 19s. I'm guessing OC began leasing space in that complex just prior to the merger. AA retained the space for a few years - into the early 90s - after the merger. In addition to FA training, the space was the location of the SNA crew base. Crews would report at Executive Park, then were shuttled to the terminal.

IIRC, I don't believe OC had their own simulators for flight deck training. I do recall that as late as '89/'90, AA was leasing B737 sim time from what is now Flight Safety International at LGB. I believe this was a continuance of a contract originally let by OC for their sim training.
