civilian aircraft what if

Sat Aug 29, 2020 9:10 am

First post here ,I got some problem to log in (for some reason ,when I cliked on "log in" it made me go back the airliners.net page). I decided to do something original with a what if 747 8F from cargolux base on boeing concept art that can be found in here (with other weird 747 related project) https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/thread ... 523/page-7
Image
Still sanding the fuselage since I'm trying my best to save it ,I decided for a orignal represenation ,I also got the UPS 747 8F (also a what if base on boeing concept) and a prototype.
Currently planing on a what if 8i using the new lufthansa livery:
Image
(that I honestly like,I think it's more modern than the old one ,easier to do in model for me ,and I'm not that disturb with the lack of yellow. I think that the "entire white" they choosed make the aircraft look cleaner)
note: I'm french so my english may be wrong at some point

I don't get it, what sort of Boeing concept are you trying to do with that 747?

Does anyone have more pic of this prototype? https://www.airliners.net/photo/Atlas-A ... y0bTs2jzPn
I got to wonder if the change they made to one of the engine were incorporated into production aircraft or to the 747 8i.

The caption under that photo is tongue-in-cheek. It isn't really an afterburner equipped 747, the photo just seems to emphasise the exhaust plume from the engine.

I think that while the zvezda is somwehat less detailed than revell ,he seem more easy to build

I got myself the revell and zvezda A320 neo at 1:144 scale
Image.
Image
Both are verry nice kit. I like revell approach and I don't mind the landing gear not being included since I prefer to represent my liner without them. The zvezda got 3 time more pieces than revell (38 versus 149). The revell will be done using a lufthansa concept art as a basis and the zvezda will be base on the SAS concept
Image
from https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/exclusi ... ed-yellow/

The SAS will have a red ring on the engine
Image
from https://scandinaviantraveler.com/en/peo ... di-feeling

Now let's compare the kit parts
-Revell

-Zvezda(I don't like their box opening)

2 engine type, one of them seem to be for the A321 neo

I did one side of the blue/red cheatline and I did had some issues because I didn't placed them well, I should've putted the cargolux name and tail first so that I'd have a guideline as to where to put it and separate it in more protion than just 2, that would've made my job much easier and would avoided me some troube.. I managed to fix it using water.

My bathroom got to be my workshop tonight

I decided to go for "city of dudelange" because I already have "city of luxemburg" in my stash as the facemask livery (he'll be done as a 747 advanced freighter) and I wanted something else than the boxart aircraft.

Didn't thought I'd got models yesterday but I did with a revell A321 neo and the boeing 747 8i with lufthansa new livery
Image
Image
The 8i will be done in one of the red tail liveries LH studied and showed in their making off
Image
I worked on my 747 advanced freighter with the facemask livery based around a proposal wich use the 7E7 tech (meaning that I'll have to base my engine nacelle on the 7E7 one)
Image
Already did a much better job at building the UPS and facemask than I did on my first one but I ran into a nozzle issue, the air didn't wanted to get trough correctly because it was partially clogged

I'll do one of the concept on my SAS A320 neo, the one with the red engine ring. The cargolux is done but since I got some part out of advanced freighter with 7E7 engine nacelle, I think I'll add them on my cargolux. I worked on the landing gear yesterday and I got idea for a cheaper 400 with the new LH livery, why not use a revell 8i fuselage and turn it into a 400? That'd be much cheaper than getting a 400 on ebay since they'll cost more than twice their inatial price (I luckily got the british airways box at 25€ with free qantas wunala dreaming decal, it'll have a different interior than the real aircraft).. I also did the fan blades and got two broken on the F41

Thanks finnished it, but I'll have to wait to use my airbrush beause I have issues fitting the O ring back in for some reason and due to the paint, I had to put the lver in a thinner bath as well as the nozzle.

Anyone did the boeing 707 from airfix? I want to do the air india retro livery, the difference with the real aircraft being the doors based on a drawing I found but can't post since it's from a competing wbsite

Regarding the Airfix 707, I've heard it has some shape issues, you can search on airlinercafe for some threads on the topic.

You're talking about the fairing? I thought the joint wasn't visible on that wing but it was. The airfix allow me to do the modification I want and I'd like to have a air india aircraft in my collection. Can I use revell A321 neo black windows decals on their austrian A321? It'll be based on a airbusads from before the prototype flown or maybe I'll turn it into a SA 2, the drawing seem to show a ressemblance with the A321.

Aeroflot wanted to negociate for 28 A350 but the maimum number of A350 900 on order I got is 22 (from wikipedia), That either aerofolot reduced their order expansion or order were canceled, I haven't found news of this 28 A350 900 order since july 2018 https://airwaysmag.com/airlines/aeroflo ... a350-900s/ I think I know what I'll do with my zvezda A350 and it won't be based on a airbus model but it'll be one of the aircraft they couldn't get.

The NEO kit windows might work on the CEO model, from what I've read it's a totally different mold, so be careful and measure it first.

The Landor retrojet would look cool, I debated doing a KLM what-if 747-8i before doing a 400 instead.

Nope, I've done the Revell only, but I've heard good things about the Zvezda kit.

Pros:
1. The fans are better
2. The engines are supposedly easier to do well

Cons:
1. The WBF is too small and needs some filler
2. The Through-belly wing part forces you to assemble, then paint

another problem I see with this kind of wing assembly is room, a full 1/144 scale 747 take a lotof place, I got 6 of them so I decided not to do them with their wing attached but separated and the zvezda is forcing me to have 1 full 747 .

Out of thinner because I made the bottle fall accidently so I'll concentrate on my advanced freighter engine now and everything I can with brush ... What color should I use for the black of the PS tail? Revell ask me to do a weird mix but it seem to be a majority of red, so wouldn't it end up being not black? It's the Q color for the tail.

I know I already have 10 kit to build but I decided to start it while waiting christma to get bottles of thinner with acrylic paint (I still intend to use my revell pot, I don't want to waste them). The Légende heller giftset has 2 model the caravelle wich propose the original decoration from 1957 with the FBHRA (and FBHHI) in prototype marking and a concorde based on the 1964 project, wich I'll do as that, the door being done using toothpick. I started assembly with the stand for the concorde and its livery will be a mix between the 1st and 2nd prototype with a blue or red cheatline. All windows will be visible.
Image
The 1964 project from a air et cosmos article https://cap-avenir-concorde.fr/les-doss ... generale-i
Image
The caravelle will be based on this air france ads showing a prototype somewhat different from the real one in a air france livery (no antennas being the main difference), the livery will be from the original 1957 edition ,FBHRA as a prototype
Image
from http://www.crash-aerien.news/forum/dess ... 2-870.html
I already tested the concorde nose and fuselage adjustment and I'd say they're quite good for a 1965 mold.
Image
Not sure where the rear door for the 1964 project come from since it's not on any drawing I found and I'll keep the "relief engraving" (not sure how to say "gravure en relief" in english)

If you're referring to the rear door molding, that's what we in the US refer to as "engraved panel lines," as opposed to "raised panel lines" that used to be on a lot of older kits because that was easier to produce, but forced the modeler to scribe them all in afterward.

ok, I'll keep them on model to use them as guide to make the doors. What color should I use to paint inside the nose, the same as the front landing gear bay? My dad ordered me 3 model for christmas, I paid for 2 and the SAS will have a what if interior base on boeing brochure since the revell configuration is for united not SAS

No idea, I'd give it a dark gray to make sure it's not translucent, or do a gray primer guide coat to accomplish the same.

I've seen picture of it in light sand so I'm doing it in that color. I closed the nose and glued it on the fuselage. Didn't thought it'd be longer than a 1/144 scale 747 8F. I'll modify the nose so it'll be somewhat accurate to the prototype
