converting a 747 8 into a 747 400?

Sat Sep 05, 2020 8:25 am

Hello, how hard would it be? I'm asking because the revell 400 is verry rare now and when it's on ebay ,it's always too costly for me . I'm also asking for a 747 400F using a 747 8F and both kit are from revell (though I can also use the vezda for a 400).

The wings and engines are completely different.

You can find the Revell 747-400 for decent prices on eBay, just have some patience and search for a bit. But do keep in mind that the Revell 747-400 nose is shaped incorrectly. The best way to fix that would arguably be to graft on the nose from a donor 747-8 kit. You will also have to make some big modifications to the wing-fuselage joint, as it is mounted at an incorrect angle.

I know about the nose ,wouldn't it be easier to just use putty?

Easier, no. Cheaper, yes. You need to crimp it in, so just applying putty won't solve it. You need to chop, bend and reglue the nose.

ok ,I guess I'd better use hasegawa if I want a normal 400 ,although for a 400F ,I'll have to use a 8F for the conversion

The 1/144 Hasegawa 747-400 is a rebox of the Revell kit. You can also source the short hump from the Revell or Airfix 747-100/200.

Stretching and shortening the fuselage is easy enough.

Is there any hope of revell re-releasing the BA 744 kit but in 1997 livery to mark their retirement?

You are lucky if they re-release it in any markings.

Lufthansa just retired theirs. With Revell being German, I'd place my bets on a Lufthansa livery more than BA.

To be honest, any livery at all would do for me!
