Plane spotting locations and tips?
Hi! Student here who is interested in civil aviation and wide body jets. Are there any tips experienced photo takers can share about taking photos of planes (I only have a phone) or the best weather/time to take photos?

It would help if we knew whereabouts you live. Or will anywhere in the world be fine? Having a phone only limits your options somewhat.

You could always get a bus day pass for the area, some good snacks, shoes and comfortable clothing. Check out Flightradar24 and Google Maps to find out what could be a good spotting area, depending on the approach/departure paths and the accessibility (footpaths, bus stops...). Zurich Airport even has a bus stop called "Pistenende" ("runway end") for all the plane spotters.
As for the photography: Take a lot of pictures. Memory on those SD cards is almost free - don't be afraid of making a lot of bad pictures. It's a learning experience. Eagerly test out the limits of your camera and lenses, and all the settings you have on your camera.
