How can they fly both Boeing and Airbus equipment? I thought you could only be current on one type? Surely these airlines could send their own crews to pick up planes from storage?

They also fly Q-series.
Steve has said on Twitter that he is current on types ranging from Q400 to A340 and 777. That's not how airlines and pilot unions typically work, but there is nothing wrong with it.
