What Part Of Your FS Flight Do You Enjoy The Most?

Sat Nov 24, 2001 1:36 am

Aloha!!

Last night I found myself climbing out of HNL in my brand new Singapore Airlines 747-300 at sunset, heading on my way to, you guessed it, Singapore.

As I climbed through 22,000 feet I broke through a cloud layer, and above me appeared the deep dark purpe of night, while below the deep orange rays of the setting sun gradually grew fainter. A look to the right, and the moon is out. Time to turn on the oanel lights, and the cockpit in which I now reside take on a warm glow, ad the cold night of the high altitude sets is.

And I thought to myself, this has got to be one of the best parts of flying, climbing out over the nighttime ocean, safe and sound in your large 747. The hum of the engines, the movement of the gauges, looking back to see that ever so familiar landmass slowly fade away, as the horizon is invaded by the changeless black ocean below.

What a thrill.

And it got me to thinking what is you guys' favorite part of flying?

As you can guess, I love sunset takeoffs which transition into night, and preferably in a large aircraft. And the nighttime cruse, I love it. In fact nighttime flying is my favorite kind of flying, it shows the real bautify of that aircraft all light up aglow.  Love

I love dawn takeoffs in smaller aircraft such as 727 and 757. Nothing like climbing out over the Sierra Nevadas at sunrise.  Smile

What are your favorite FS moments? Maybe you could desribe them here, just for the heck of it.  Big thumbs up

I love my late night AMerican B727 flight from San Juan to St. Maarten. Coming down very low to the ocean, the passengars starting to question if we are going land in the water. Then to swoop down into Princess Juliana.

I enjoy descending though the clouds also.

I must agree with Aloha on that phase of flight Big thumbs up.

There is another aspect that I also like. It happens on approach, and it is one the most rewarding. Coming through the clouds, and the visibility is low, but as soon as you break through, there it is in front of you, a series of lights, and the runway. Cleared to land, and you make it just fine. It's a rewarding experience when you see those lights racing down as you come in for landing.

I love landing that Cessna with floats on the water at sunset. Close second Helocopter tour of major world skylines.

Definitely the landing, it feels really rewarding when you accomplish yet another "great" landing, as the saying goes.

I love cruising over Canada at 41,000ft at dawn in my POSKY BA744 from LHR to KLAX, and the tight approach into Innsbruck (Austria) in a 767 (that takes some doing try it).

Definately the landing, especially if it's a smooth one! You get the satisfaction that you've complated another sucessful flight. The part I hate most must be final approach, in bad crosswinds especially. I hate the crabbing!

Ha ha ha! Exactly the same as Tropical SQ744. I like the challenge of trying (in vain) of landing the default FS98 734 without it bouncing!
Crosswinds are real hard...

Well I love FS in all its aspects.

It has given me the joy of flying virtually to places in the world I can only dream of.

Also the other part I love about FS is definitely the landing.

What a feeling...after endless hours of flight, proudly landing your aircraft smoothly and safe at the airport is a very rewarding experience (maybe i take this sim thing too serious)

Dont we love FS!!

My most memorable moment of playing FS is flying my favourite Airbus 330-200(Sri Lankan) after taking off from Changi Airport at about 6 pm at that time you can see the sun set which is so beautiful .

Thanks god for FS2002 !

I enjoying re-flying virtually flights I have been on in real life...it gives you such an exhilirating feeling when you touch down many hours later..

Another aspect I love is sunrise's and sunsets...they are so beautiful at 30000 + ft

Love the comment about the "pre-crash phase of the approach" - that certainly describes most of my approaches so far! At least in the commercial planes - I can land the smaller ones pretty easily.

So far most of the flights I've flown in FS2002 are flights I've flown in real life, and the parts I like best are the parts I recognize. I flew over my house on an approach to LaGuardia last night; that was cool. Tonight I flew from LAX to SFO, which is just a beautiful approach at night and I did it so many times while I lived there that it almost seemed second nature (though very cool to finally see it from the cockpit!). I also lived not a mile from the airport so I flew over my house again before doing the approach (you can see right where it is from 4,000 feet). That was my first successful landing in a commercial aircraft too - nice and smooth in the 777. Forgot the auto-braking, though, heh - used all the runway to get to a stop. Also forgot my landing lights! Oops.

Sometimes I like the crashes, too (though only because they're not real!). Had one flight the other day taking off in the 737 flying from O'Hare to Kalamazoo at night in a driving rainstorm and 1,500 overcast. As I descended down under the overcast for landing I forgot to reset my altimeter - I still showed 1,100 feet when I actually saw the dark outlines of trees going by my window *above* me! Ack! I've had nightmares like that. Crash came seconds later, of course. A scary moment, but cool because of how real it felt, seeing those trees passing by me as the first indication of how low I really was.
I'm tired of being a wanna-be league bowler. I wanna be a league bowler!

Try a night flight anywhere in the far north. Bergen,Norway to somewhere in Iceland. Select the spot view and you can see what I assume are the winter northern lights. It looks like the sky is on fire with blue/green flames. I think it is pretty cool, you might want to check it out.

As a flight sim 2002 pilot, I love thrusting your aircraft down the runway and rotating off the bumpy terrain before lifting the gear and climing knowing that you have a few hundred passengers in the back (which knowing my landing skills will be dead when we get there.)
I also love the decent through the clouds, especially when there is a violent patch of turbulance around! Just adds loads of realism.

During the past two days I have been taking a Beech 1900D of ANZ off from meigs and crashing it into the water and getting screenshots of it sinking - i love the new water features in FS2K2.

Now ive messed about in it though - time to do some serious flying. I like flying btw BHX and DUB and if u havent downloaded it already, on flightsim.com there is a fab BA A319 download for FS2k2 - get it - its great to fly!

happy flying everyone,
Marc

Well i've decided to start an around the world tour in FS2002Pro... and so far my favourite part of FS was flying through the Alps in a Baron 58 on my Turin-Zurich-Innsbruck flight yesterday... I also like landings... especially bumpy ones.... like the one into Inssbruck yesterday.... I was just being flung all around on approach... i was sure that i wouldn't make it, for a little while...... it was great..... today it's Innsbruck-Munich-Vienna.

I love doing short flights from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok in a 747. Another one of my favorite flights is another short one, Curacao to St Maarten. Landing at SXM is the best part, cause you can see Maho Bay, and if you get low enough, you can see the warning signs that are accurate down to the font! Approaches into Seattle are also pretty fun, too. Certain crashes (non-deliberate, of course) can be fun (weird, I know). Like one time, I was descending into DFW in a t'storm, and I hit a microburst that slammed me into the ground, just like Delta 191. Experiences like that are what always keep me playing.

Best part of the flight, the take-off, then the acceleration to supersonic speeds. And later, the descent into Hong Kong (Kai-tak). Always enjoyable.  Smile

Hello

I love take off and just after take off when you decelerate from take of thrust to climb thrust (I also love this part in real life).

Love the sound of the engines revving down and that lovely hum…

Kimberly.
