Timetables---Did You Collect Timetables?

I started collecting timetable in 1984 or 1985. My first was a Delta. I collected them for years.

My mom just made me realize something.

They are just about extinct. You cant find them anymore. The only ones I seem to ever be able to find are SWA.

Yet I have boxes and boxes of them at home. Western, Delta's merger with Western, Ozark and TWA before, during and after they merged. Braniff 1 and 2. People Express and People Express when they took over Britt and Frontier. AA when they were hubbing at BNA and RDU as well as the old Northwest Orient, Eastern and Midway.

I love these things. Not that I would ever sell them but what could they be worth.

Did you collect?

I don't really know why I started this thread. Maybe I have just realized that at 31 years of age, Im now old enough to have memorabilia that I actually remember  Big thumbs up

Tell me about your memories of collecting timetables and what would your coolest timetable be?

I started collecting BA's timetables from 1994, but unfortuantly they stopped printing timetables last year. When I asked at BA travel agency why this happened, I was told it was to reduce costs and that customers can use BA's online timetable. Sadly its not the same.

Its interesting that looking back in late 1999, the airline still used DC-10s.

When I did a lot of business travel in the late 70s-mid 80's I always
walked up to airline counters and got timetables..any place I'd find
them, I'd grab them..loved reading through them. Unfortunately,
I tossed them out quite a while ago..

I recall having, DL, CO, WA (Western), Frontier (old), Rocky Mountain, TW,
UA, BN, EA..heck..I can't remember 'em all..

wish I still had them. Drove my (then) wife nuts

I have about 80 different timetables. Mainly from airline from around the world, not too many old defunct airlines. I'm thinking of giving them a shot on EBay before I just throw them out.

I have a lot of timetables. Every time when I'm at an airport I'm still looking around to see if there are timetables which I can take.
A few years ago my mom threw some of my old timetables away, because "It were old ones and you can't use them anymore....."  Nuts It were timetables of airlines which don't exist anymore like Air Europe UK and Flexair.

I've been collecting for about 14 years and have over 50000 timetables from over a 1000 airlines. You can see some images at www.timetableimages.com.

Atcboy73, 1980s US airline timetables are worth next to nothing. Sorry...

Atcboy73, that's difficult to predict, but I'd expect several decades. The thing is, most of the timetables were widely available when they were valid, distributed over ticket counters throughout the USA. So thousands of copies were picked up, and if you check eBay, these timetables can be bought now for just $2-3 each.

The most valuable timetables (in terms of pure monetary value, based on eBay sales) are not neccessarily the oldest, but the ones which are or were hardest to find. So, a two-year-old timetable from some odd local african airline may sell for $50-100 on eBay, whilst a 1950s US timetable may still be less than $10. On the other hand, 1930s Pan Am timetables seem to be going for $50-100 these days.

I seriously thought I was the only person in the universe who gathered
timetables when at an airport. Heck, at one time I worked less than a
mile from COS..I'd walk to the airport on my lunch hour and grab timetables.

If I see one at an airport, I will take them, but I do not go out of my way.

Yes, I did collect with all of those timetables at PHX & FLL or either way that I took one of these timetable books inside with their airplanes myself.

Back in the 1950s my aunt used to take me out to YIP quite often. I used to make the rounds of the ticket counters and pick up timetables and whatever else they had available. I used to spend hours looking thru them. Sure wish I still had em!

I collected United timetables from 2000 til the second to last one , Summer 2001. Too bad they don't print them since 9-11. I remember they used to have a pile of them at the end of thier ticket counter in ROC .
