Herpa:Why Not CX?

Mon Oct 18, 2004 12:10 am

Do anyone know why there's not any Cathay Pacific plane in the Herpa-Wings Collection? It's odd since CX is one of the most important airlines in the world.

Mind you actually Herpa has produced a range of CX models in 1:200, 1:400 and 1:500 and they're sold exclusively by the airline and through a number of agencies. You can have a look at http://www.cathaypacific.com

I got an A340 from Ebay a while back. The person bought it on a CX flight. It looks great, they're sorta hard to find!

Airbus A3xx: It seem very odd you say, because Herpa pay rights to airlines to use airlines' name.It has no sense Herpa sell all models to CX, especially the smallest 1:500 and 1:400.I did find nothing at CX's web-site.
Continental... Is your A-340 from Herpa???

Anexbla,
Just check "Duty Free shopping" at "Before you fly" section on the left and you will find something you couldn't believe... There are 744, 772, 773, 343, 333, 346 in 1:500 scales.... not to mention some 1:200s... made by Herpa... I can tell you, under the belly of every CX 1:500 model, Herpa's logo is there..

Is it a copyright or legal issue? Is that why dragon wings don't make BA aircraft?

Just a heads up on ebay.

Buying Herpa off a Hong Kong seller. The bulk of them are fake Herpa's.

Ie just as in Bangkok you can get fake armani etc, hong kong seems to be fake herpa territory

Airbus A3xx is correct, CX's Herpa models are "exclusively by the airline and through a number of agencies". All these Herpa are real Herpa. I can say some shops in HKG sell fake Herpa but do you think CX will sell fake Herpa herself?!

This CX-Herpa issue is a bit odd.

In "aviation-centre.de" is possible to buy a Cathay Pacific's B747-400 but it's very very expensive. It's 40 Euros... in comparison, you can buy other 744's (AF, BA, Phillippine Airlines, KLM...) by 17/20 Euros... even there's a Air Namibia's 744 in 9,90 Euros. Why the CX one is SO expensive??? And with the "Asia's World city" colours is in 44,90 Euros. CX EVEN doesn't appear at the Herpa's web-site. It look like if CX doesn't longer exist for Herpa.
And on the CX's web-site you can buy it, but the Herpa name do NOT appear, so I can't know if this miniature is or is not from Herpa.
By the way... in the Herpa data-base, there's a list WITH 241 AIRLINES.... with the exception of CX!!!

Then.... what happen with this issue?
1.-Why Herpa don't sell CX's planes and why is possible to buy it in "aviation-centre.de" (I think it is a shop in Berlin) Does anyone if are there other shops in Germany where it can be possible to buy it? Or just there?
2.-Are Herpa those planes which is possible purchasing in the CX's web-site?

Anxebla, those Herpa planes can be bought in the CX's web-site.

http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/pretrip/cxcitement/0,,,00.html

then click "COLLECTIBLES" for plane modals.

Since CX only sells its 1:500 herpa-made models exclusively, therefore any other retailers are NOT allowed to sell them in their shops. It is due to the licence agreement. and that's why you can't find any models at herpa database, and in fact, you can't buy these models from your retailers... If you come to Hong Kong, you will see the display of CX models in the model shops are listed as "DISPLAY ONLY".

If you want to buy CX models, just click on their website and search for duty-free shopping, browse around and you would find.. Or you fly on CX and have a look at their inflight magazines...

In addition, not only CX is doing so, but Dragonair (KA) is also doing so.. There aren't any rumours of "FAKED HERPA"....
