Hey everyone,
I am currently in the middle of my longest flight; SYD-LAX. The estimated time of arrival brings the total flight time to just over 13 hrs. Its the 2nd to last leg in my RTW tour: BOS-LHR-HKG-SYD-LAX-BOS, all in a BA 747400! Its been a longgggggggg journey, but its been fun!

Regards,
Mike

Well if we're starting up an old thread again, I may as well update you on my latest flight, one of my longest in terms of distance flown.  Smile

LHR-HKG-SYD-HKG-LHR in VS's G-VMEG "Mystic Maiden" (A340-600). Currently about 1300nm from HKG on the SYD-HKG leg.

After I land at LHR tomorrow morning, should've had a total flying time of nearly 24 hours on this trip. Big grin

I'm in the process of doing an around the world flight with a BBJ.

Routing:
Teterboro-Acapulco-Honolulu-Midway-Beijing-London (Stansted)-Teterboro

All in all its about 19600 miles.

Right now I'm refueling in Beijing, getting ready for the longest segment of the trip.

I've had this issue before flying from LHR-BOS. I ended up selecting direct GPS to avoid the issue. I don't know if its a glitch or what, but my FP was something like all the way across Canada, then a diagonal line to BOS. If anyone knows what this is all about I would love to know!

One time I was told to go around because of atc clutter in front of me, so since I was almost running on fumes, I figured why not have some fun with the atc in PHX, so I parked my plane..... into the control tower so to speak.  devil

My longest flight, by far, and I don't think I will be able to top that anytime soon, was Quito-Nairobi, but flown westbound along the equator. I used a POSKY Pan Am 747SP that I emptied of any pax and cargo, topped off the tanks and tried to fly as far as I could, somewhere along the way I was able to determine that I would make it to NBO with about 10,000 lbs of fuel to spare. The total flight time I logged was 30.5 hours.

RTW but including my two 'home' airports EDI & CHC with another catch...unless completely unavoidable, no sector over 2 hours flying time. Routing EDI-FRA-FCO-ATH-LCA-Eilat-DXB and so on down to CHC then up pacific coast where I am about to depart NRT for Sapporo and then the plan is to head up through eastern Siberia to the Aleutians, ANC, across the US & Canada. Last sectors I am planning are Labrador-Greenland-Keflavik-INV-EDI. I am not too well accquainted with airports in Labrador or Greenland so if anyone can advise me of suitable stop-overs it would be much appreciated.

My longest single sectors?

DXB-SYD (then on to CHC) EK A340-500 13hrs 30min

LHR-SIN SQ B747-400 12hrs 40min

CHC-MNL NZ B767 11 hours

Well most of the time I like to do short flights around where I live:
TOL to 0G6
0G6 to 1G0
GWB to 1G0

So on and so forth.

But since I have been working at GWB, I like to fly the routes that planes based here fly. All flights from GWB:
KTOL, KLAS, KSPF, KDBQ, KMSP, KSLC, KMBL, KBTL, KRSW, KCMI, KGRR, KDPA, KFTW, KDAL, KHFY, KGEZ, KMCN, KCGF, KCLE, KMDW, KORD, KAPF, KSGR, KFLL, MYNN, KSBN, KSRQ, KIND, KFWA, KTYS, KALB, KJFK, and even one out to KLAX.

I have done a few trans Pacific flights in the past, but I always end up saving them a lot and never finish them in one sitting. Longest flight in segments was 18 hours from JFK to Sydney, I think it was a 777, but I don't remember. Longest flight in one sitting was 4 hours from 1G0 to KLAS Learjet 45. I like to use the 45 the most for cross country flights, fast, efficent, and easy to handle.

12 hours in real time. I flew my 777-200LR from Toronto to Dubai. I started my flight about 4 in the afternoon (real time) and was up until 4am. That was fun!

Arriving at Dubai I got a ridiculous approach in to the airport. I was at 2000 feet flying in on a 70 mile final! It added an extra 20 minutes onto the flight.  Wink

EWR-HKG over the North Pole, Triple 7.

I opt not to use the simulation speed enhancer as I usually encounter problems in-flight the faster I set it. It really sucks to have this happen especially after flying a substantial distance, really, and having to start the flight over. Besides, I want to make the flying experience as real as possible.

I love long haul flights.
My longest I have done twice. MIA-NRT 744. I try to not speed up time on long hauls. The first time i did the flight I tookoff at 06:00Est and landed around 18:00est. So the flight was always in day light.
Just flew that flight again On Friday night. T/O was at 00:15 and landed around 13:40est. So the flight was in the dark the whole flight. I will sleep durring the night flights and wake up every 2-3 hours and than stay awake for the last hour.
I will be flying HGK-JFK Friday night! 744. Nice polar flight!

Also have done
MIA-EZE 777
GIG-MIA 777
MIA-FRA 742
TLV-HKG 777
JNB-LHR 742
LAX-AKL 777
MIL-MIA 742
MIA-TLV 777
MIA-LAG ( Lagos Nigeria) 742.
MAD-MIA 777.

That was two years ago I wrote this! I have some more to add.
MIA-DXB 777
MIA-JNB 777
LAX-SYD 777
LAX-AKL 777
IAD-NRT 747
I have done the HKG-JFK flight atleast 3 times now.
SFO-HKG 777
GUM-PDX 742.
MIA-Addis Ababa 777 HKG-SYD, HKG-DXB, and plenty of US-Europe flights PDX-CDG would be my longest of that type of flight.

At the moment i'm doing Manchester to Australia - the long way round. I've done:
Manchester-JFK (In a B737-200, no less!)
JFK-Seattle (just about made that one)
Seattle-Honolulu
Honolulu-Hihifo (French Polynesia)
Hihifo-Nadi
Nadi-Cairns
About to do Cairns-Sydney.

All of these are around 4:30 to 5:20 in length, so it's pushing the range, especially as most of it is over the ocean. I'm doing it with FSpassengers, and thankfully i've not had a fuel leak or an engine failure. I haven't factored in much margin for error, all of my flights are just full fuel and go. Thank God the little bugger can get off a 7K runway fully fuelled though  Wink

Quoting Nighthawk (Reply 6):
although with no FMS

Haha. The manual in X-plane is useless in regards to the FMS, so I've no idea how to use it. What I do is, I take off, climb to cruise, press Autothrottle, Altitude hold, and Heading Hold. Then I go to class, or work, or tennis, or whatever, and when I come back, I find myself 300 miles off course. So I turn towards my destination, and once I get there, I land. So my JFK-GVA flights take me 9 hours instead of 8, haha.

The aircraft with the best range in X-plane is the 777-200, but it only has 10.5 hours worth of fuel at the maximum. So I can't fly any ultra-long-hauls. I can't find a good A345 or A773ER anywhere. And any 4-engined aircraft in X-plane tends to run out of fuel for some reason. The standard 744 that comes with it, for example, only has fuel readings for 3 of the engines. So engine 4 dies after 5 hours or so. It's brilliant.

My longest flights, taking all of the above into account, have been:
ATH-JFK
JFK-GVA
ZRH-JFK
EWR-PDX
SEA-MCO
