Jesus! Did you actually sit by your computer for 18 hours? LOL.

My longest has been LHR-BOS on VS, but that's only because I've been practicing my landings a lot lately, so I've been taking a lot of short flights (especially island hopping around hawaii!).

I've been wanting to try SCL - AKL - SYD with LAN, but I don't know if I can take any long flights. I find myself getting real bored sometimes.

He probably just did what everyone else does...Press LNAV and VNAV, and the aircraft will automaticly fly the route and make the turns neccessary.
However, If you have a payware add-on with and FMC, you can program Speeds, Altitude ect and it will fly itself...Well on the Airbus models anyway.

My longest flight was
Aer Lingus--- Airbus A330-300---DUB-JFK---6h 30 mins
Aer Lingus--- Airbus A330-300---JFK DUB---7h 00mins

My longest is EDI-EWR in an A340-600. It took about 6 hours or so. I always fly in real time, whats the point of flying 16x speed? Why not pick airports closer together?

Im tempted to try CDG-SXM in the 747-200, that cold be fun, although with no FMS i would need to do it the old fashioned way to be realistic. I could use the GPS but that would be cheating :P

26 hours nonstop from the Azores to the Caribbean in a B314 Clipper. Strong headwinds and turbulence kept me at 500 feet for most of the trip, in an aicraft that has only a Sperry 2 axis autopilot (heading and attitude hold).

LY7E7,

yeah the PMDG doesnt handle 16x... there only 4x  Wink

I dont take airports closer to each other because I want to fly the route, but dont want to sit in front of the PC 18 hours or so! I do enough flying in real life in my 737  Wink
FS is just a bit fun for me! doing things I cannot do in the real aircraft!

I love long haul flights.
My longest I have done twice. MIA-NRT 744. I try to not speed up time on long hauls. The first time i did the flight I tookoff at 06:00Est and landed around 18:00est. So the flight was always in day light.
Just flew that flight again On Friday night. T/O was at 00:15 and landed around 13:40est. So the flight was in the dark the whole flight. I will sleep durring the night flights and wake up every 2-3 hours and than stay awake for the last hour.
I will be flying HGK-JFK Friday night! 744. Nice polar flight!

Also have done
MIA-EZE 777
GIG-MIA 777
MIA-FRA 742
TLV-HKG 777
JNB-LHR 742
LAX-AKL 777
MIL-MIA 742
MIA-TLV 777
MIA-LAG ( Lagos Nigeria) 742.
MAD-MIA 777.

Hi, The longest flight I've flown so far is LGW-MSP 8hr37min. And I never speed up. Flying long flights isnt as bad as you think.

These are all my flights done for my VA. CPA virtual so far.

The longest non stop flight was 13h+, the longest total flight with a stop over was 18+ hours, flying a Meljet/PSS 777 From AMS to ORD and then to HNL. But this was not for this VA.

As you can see, I am a real long hauler, and all these flights (exept one) were 1x speed.

An unknown ICAO code on this logbook page is preventing the map from displaying.

I think it's fair to say that I am quite notorious for my long-hauls, and under NO circumstances do I speed up the simulation rate!! You can't do this in real life so why should you do it on FS?!?!

My longest flights include:

TO & FROM LONDON:
Cape Town
Johannesburg
Harare
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Hong Kong
Beijing
Tokyo (Narita)
Singapore
Kuala Lumpur
Calgary
Mumbai

to name a few...!

others include:

Rarotonga - Philadelphia (FedEx MD11)
Havana - Milan Malpensa (Lauda Air 777)
Cape Town - Buenos Aires (Malaysian 747)
Shanghai - Munich (Lufthansa A340)
Dubai - Melbourne (Emirates A340)
New York - Tokyo (American 777)

I can't remember the exact flight times, but they were bloody long!

My longest so far has been BOS-LHR, on a British Airways 777... about 6 hours or so... Quick question about the Meljet 777 (and almost all other A/C I've flown in FS): When I climb to cruising altitude, at about FL300, I begin to lose airspeed, and continue to until I reach altitude. I was wondering what to do about this problem.

Thanks,
Alex

You should generally change to Mach speed between 20-30k feet. And as you go higher your indicated airspeed will decrease as the air gets thinner. If you keep an eye on your ground speed you will see that it stays pretty much the same.

You want to change to Mach at around FL240 you can also look at your ground speed. But if the plane is still flying slower and even stalling make you Vertical Speed lower and on a long haul with lots of fuel and passenger ( a heavy plane) you should do step climbing. First go to 27,000ft than 1-2 hours later to 32,000-34,000ft than 2-4 hours later to 38,000-41,000ft. But depends how long your flight is. Maybe skip step one. Also if you are flying BOS-LHR you dont need to put 100% fuel on a 777. So fuel according to your flight. The lighter the plane the easier to climb.

Currently in the middle of DUB-SIN. I set of this morning @ 7:30 so hope to be done about 9ish (13/13 1/2 hours) After that its on to SYD, then LAX, then back to DUB.

I usually do mainly DUB - USA flights but thought I'd try something different.

I shut the right engine down and came back to me going 183 knots instead of 230-problem was i was 6000 feet above sea level on the mountain slopes of eastern china  crazy

I haven't flown Fs in months cause of college plus I didn't fly that many long routes but I loved to do redeye flights where I would take-off at around 22-2400 and sleep then wake up early in the morning about 30 minutes before ETA, I hope this isn't what they do in real life. Smile I did a lot of California to NorthEast/Florida flights. I remember that if I had a bad landing/approach in the morning my whole morning if not the day was ruined but those were not too often.

Long routes I always used FedEx DC10s, United 747,767s, and Continental 757s. My favorite long route was SFO/LAX to Hong Kong. I did this only a few times but I tried to do around the Pacific runs with FedEx A310s. LAX-ANC-NRT-Singapore-Guam-Hawaii-LAX which I think they do in real life or close to these routes. I think I'm going back to FS this summer when I have some more time.

Being a pilot for ANET VA on the 744, we have a few long routes to fly. Routes like ATH-VYR-ATH, AKL-LAX-AKL, SIN-CPH-SIN, SIN-MAN-SIN, YVR-NRT-YVR, many routes like this throughout the FS world.

Off the top of my head:
JFK-JNB A343 16 hours (flew the first 3 & last 6 hours)
MUC-LAX A343 13 hours (was present at the screen, but did other things while in cruise)
SIN-CPH A343 12 hours
LHR-SIN B744 14 hours (flew first 6 hours & last hour)
LHR-EZE B772 14 hours (same as above)

And then there's loads of other flights I can't really remember. I only really fly the A343 these days, as it's the only one where I have a fully working FMGS.
