More Ram Or CPU

Mon Jun 06, 2005 1:28 pm

I have an extra $150.00 to put into my PC MONSTER and want to spend it wisely.

I presently have a Radeon 9600 Saphirre with a a AMD 2500CPU and 512 RAM....I am thinking of either going to a AMD 3000 or 1Gig Ram.

What would be a better buy.....RAM or CPU?????

Of course Im a MSFS 9.1 User.

Use 1 gig of RAM. I say saupgrade what you can afford now and save up more for a better processor than an AMD 3000. My personal choice is an AMD Athlon 64.

I would also say more RAM.

Firstly - it is cheaper, secondly, I upgraded from an Athlon XP2600+ to an Athlon 64 3000. On paper thats an increase of 15%. In reality it gained (on 3D Mark) 9%.

I would agree with EclipseFlight7 - when you upgrade your processor - go for something faster - at least 3400 or higher

I'd say more RAM too definitely.

You can upgrade your CPU later on...

I agree with those above, for the most bang for your buck it's gotta be RAM, the more the merrier

You can have over kill of ram I know 2 had 2 gig now just one works fine

For you however seriously for $150 if you want a true monster save one fitty you don't get shit! Save and get a kick ass graphics card or better motherboard, then ram for your specs now ram aint that important to you 512 is fine if you do others then focus on more r latr but if you must buy ram MAKE SURE YOU BUY KINGSTON!!! cannot inforce this more great stuff a little dearer but kicks ass! thats kingston not kingmax. it looks like the same specs but believe me inothing runs as sweet as a stick of kingston!

Also the thing to remember is that your most important thing aint cpu its GRAPHICS the shops only write cpu speed first because more people know about it but seriously graphics.

My current specs (since nov' 03) are:

nVidia FX5700
2Gb Kingston DDR400 (Dual channel - 4 sticks of 512)
Intel P4 2.8Ghz (VERY similar to 3 or 3.2 just with less errors...)
Intel Motherboard (Best at time) wish it was a gigabyte!
2 x seagate 80Gb 7200rpm's
Audigy 2 pro sound
TV Mate tuner (Do NOT Recomend...bad bad bad!)

For gaming very much recomend AMD!
but slower for other... Thats why intel

I would go with more Ram it may be a good Crucial has good prices and excellent memory sticks.

My current specs

Intel Pentium 4 with HT 3.0ghz
512mb Ram
200GB HD (really only has 179)
TV/Radio Tuner (EXCELLENT, LOVE THIS WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER EDITION)
128mb Graphics card
6 USB 2.0 ports
etc,
It runs FS great, along with all my other games, definately a step up from my Centrino laptop.

Btw my computer is an HP n1170M Photosmart Media PC.  Smile
