Oh my! How could he ever do that? Does Boeing sell such simulators to potential buyers?  Confused

You'd have to be single to spend 30K on a simulator! Ha!

If he's using MS Flight Simulator to power his outside screens, I am curious how he gets the various controls to feed inputs to Flight Simulator and how he gets the instruments on his "flight deck" to display coordinated information. Does the FMS work, etc.? If not, then all that stuff is really all lit up for no reason, and the thing isn't worth much. If it does all work, then he has a pretty nifty little item. I'm impressed that he built it from wood and some car seats.

I did not read the text. He says he has built the sim all by himself!

Quote: "This is the next best thing," he says of the 747-400 he has assembled in his spare bedroom, which has a pair of car seats for the captain and first officer to park their butts on.

This is what he said:

"JD: "There's no room for anything elseā€”that's why my wife had to go!"

So he is single......again.

There are a lot of people around the world that have built cockpits of their favorite airplane to run MS Flight Sim with. There are many companies that make and sell parts for this hobby.

Is it a problem/illegal to have flight simulator at your place?

I totally agree. A man needs to set his priorities. But who's bringing the beer now?

whats funny is this quote:

"claims he wasn't good enough at math to fly proper planes"

with today's modern avionics , you only need remedial math anyway! I would bet building his own sim required more math then planning a flight in his sim  Smile

Good on him, it's a fair achievement and probably far more productive than just spending endless hours down the pub getting pissed... the latter also seems to lead to more marriage break-ups too!

Now the question is... what's his username on A.net  silly

There is a guy in Austraila who hand built a 744 sim in his basement. It was featured in Airliners magazine a year or so ago.

When I worked as a contractor for DL a few years ago, they had two old DC9 sims in crates behind the geneal office complex that they were trying to "give away" for 20 grand each. Of course, it would cost you that and then some to get them up and running (they had been in those crates for several years). We all pondered the idea of buy them, setting them up somewhere and chargeing a per hour rate but sure we would have went bust in the first month!!!

FSUIPC is the software part of it, hardware IO is handled by EPIC or similar

There is a company here in NZ that has commercial outlets in shopping malls in Auckland and Christchurch. They have a full-size 737NG simulator (unfortuately not full motion). I know for a fact that you need to book at least a week in advance to fly a session in the one in Christchurch.

I cant remember the web address but just try googling 'Flight Experience'

I think this is the one you mean:

The site doesn't look like much has been added to it since I last looked though.
