Continental 737-300 Profile Drawing

Sat Mar 29, 2008 6:13 am

Here are some scans of a Continental 737-300 profile drawing I recently completed. (Some of you may remember the work-in-progress scans I posted here a while back.) Ignore the splotchiness of the blue on the tail, it's not like that on the actual drawing.

The drawing measures about 11 1/2 inches from nose to the tip of the horizontal stab, for an approximate scale of 1:15.

Enjoy!

FYI, I accidentally stated that the drawing is 1/15 scale. That's a typo; it's approximately 1/115 scale.

Fantastic drawing, you've got some serious skills. Have you considered selling prints?

Keep up the great work,

Thanks Andrew! Yes, I am looking into selling prints.

BTW, my next drawing will be a CO black meatball 727-100 profile.

It took me a while, sadly, to realize this, but why does your 733 have winglets?

Because the real N10323 has them. Wink

Continental began adding winglets to their 737-300s last July, I believe. According to Wikipedia, 11 of their 48 -300s will be retroffited with winglets, as well as 37 -500s.

As for why I chose to draw a wingletted 737 instead of a non-wingletted 737? I think they look cool!

That's an amazing drawing. You have great talent!. I have a few questions. The drawing is so detailed, how long did it take? Was this your first or have you drawn any others. I would be extremely interested to see your other drawing if so. Good luck on the CO 727-100.

KPWM

Thanks for the nice reply!

I am 19 years old and have been drawing airliner profiles since I was a little kid, around 8 or 9. The CO 737 I posted is actually the first profile drawing I've completed in about three years though, and is leaps and bounds better than anything I drew before it. Altogether, I'd say I've got somewhere around 100 profile drawings (probably did many more than that, but didn't keep them all) from over the years, each one being a little better than the last.

I was extremely perfectionistic when drawing the CO 737 profile; I wanted to make sure I had every last detail and that it was as accurate as possible. As a result, it took quite a while to complete. Like I said, it was a big step-up from anything I'd drawn before, so I spent a lot of time tweaking and re-working things, and trying new techniques. Altogether I spent hundreds of hours on it. It was worth it though, as I'm very satisfied with the end result.

I don't have any other drawings scanned right now, and I'm at college away from home and don't have any other drawings with me anyhow. But take me at my word when I say the rest aren't really worth seeing anyhow. Wink

As for the CO 721, thanks! I'll start it this summer when I'm back home and have a fair amount of time to work on it. I'll post some work-in-progress scans once I make some significant enough headway.

The time you put into the drawing definitely shows! Again, great work, I am truly amazed!

Holly shizzle dude! That is really nice work. I have been drawing planes since I was a child, and I can't even get my airplanes to look like that. LOL! Great job!!!
