Impact Erebus

Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:57 am

I have quite a collection of aviation related books. I am interested in purchasing Impact Erebus by Capt Gordon Vette that describes what to me is the most intrigueing aircrash ever, namely the Air Newzealand that crashed in controlled flight on Mt Erebus in 1979. Why is this book so expensive? I have searched the net and the cheapest copy I found cost $100+p&p.

Because the book is out of print. You can't buy a new copy from the publisher so you have to buy one second hand. The print run was probably quite short which means there aren't many available, so if demand is high then sellers can charge a high price.

Simple supply and demand issues really.

Just because it's out of print. My dad bought it for 40 GBP a few years back - well worth the money but expensive.

If you are still looking for a copy, try www.trademe.co.nz

TradeMe is a New Zealand equivalent of Ebay. There are usually a good secondhand assortment of the three or so books written on the Erebus disaster.
I picked up a copy for $20NZ

Just type in EREBUS in the search, and you might be surprised

Picked up a copy back in July on eBay for $25 USD.

Just create a saved search. When one is listed, eBay will send you an email.

Won't really help the original poster as you need to have a valid e-mail address in NZ or OZ to bid on Trade Me
