I was wondering if Air Crash Investigations had been renewed for a seventh series? I have heard no announcement?

I hope they'll not stop! Maybe they'll announce later coming next year.

On National Geographic & National Geographic HD in the UK they announced that we would be seeing series brand new “still in production” series in mid 2010, they did not confirm what investigations would be produced though...

As for investigations I'd like to see covered, I'm very interested in Pam Am flight 845, which, although thankfully no fatalities, suffered serious damage on take-off at SFO on 30th July 1971. http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19710730-2

I live in Canada so Air Crash Investigations is called "Mayday" and is aired on the Discovery Channel. Wikipedia says there will be a season 7 here starting on March 1, 2010.

To confirm for people in the United Kingdom we will also get our favourite show back on 01st March...

The new series (seven) will be available to Virgin Media & SKY customers.

The first showing will be on Mondays at 21:00 as of 1st March. It will be repeated on Tuesday morning at 00:00 and again at 16:00.

For Virgin Media users Nat Geo can be found on channel 230, plus one hour 231 and HD 232. The series will be added to Virgin Media’s ‘catch up on demand’ feature with in 24 (it can take anything from ten minutes to 48 hours) of its first showing. It will be uploaded to the on demand system in both standard and HD versions and will be available for seven days (from the day it was uploaded). It is unclear if the new series will be added episode by episode onto Virgin Media’s ‘TV Choice on Demand’ (you can find it by selecting TV choice on demand then list by channel and finally find the National Geographic channel. For those of you who have the ‘Plus’ box you can series link the show (press yellow) and it will automatically record (and save until you delete the programme) the entire series, even if the times are changed the box will adjust its recording time so you won’t miss a thing.

For SKY customers your channels are Nat Geo 526, plus one hour 527 and HD 543. Unlike Virgin Media you won’t have the catch up on demand feature, however if you have a ‘SKY Box’ you can record the show and series link it (be warned if the time of the programme is changed the ‘SKY box’ won’t automatically update the recording schedule like the Virgin Media Plus box does).

So series seven (and information such as time are subject to change and the accuracy of the information listed below may not be 100%)

Very little info about this one, however rumour has it that could be about one of three incidents
1. Britannia Airways – Boeing 757-200 BY226A - no one killed, aircraft skidded off runway while landing in heavy rain
2. British Airways – Boeing 777-200ER BA38 – no one killed, aircraft had engines fail on final approach, final report only released this week, so it could make sense that the final episode in the series is a good one
3. A total surprise....

So looking forward to this series, I hope the graphics have improved!!! And having it in high definition through cable (so no weather interference) will make this series once to remember (and record on the Plus box)

Cool note: I don't know where filimg for this show is done, but it appears Episode One (British Airtours) was filmed in Canada, province of Ontario (where I live). In one of the photos in the provided link above, it shows a firemen holding a child and the back of the fire truck is in the background, and you can fainly make out an Ontario license plate and its first 3-digits. Just a cool find, photo attached.

I tend to find that the strobe and beacons were in the past put in the wrong place (strobes on the top of a Airbus A333) for the type of aircraft, the aircraft it’s self would look good – just the lights were in the wrong place and colours etc.

Mmm, yeah, remember frowing at this once. I think it was the TS glider one. The graphics seem to have def improved though. Slightly off topic, but sometimes I wonder is there a subliminal tobacco advertisement in it    ...the investigators are always smoking in it! Watch the AA & TK DC10 episode, it's ridiculous! OK, I am just joking. It's generally an unobjective, interesting programme.

It was the Air Transat series and there have been a few others for example the other one I can think of is the Swiss Air MD11 but as ‘aerdingus’ said over the years the graphics and the more technical issues (lights, where and each aircraft they go and what colour they are) have got better.

One other item that disappoints me is the flight decks and cabins. You can clearly see the cabin looks to be airbus on all the episodes. The flight decks are often totally wrong and have, in the earlier days look horrid at time – but once again this can depend on what type of aircraft they are in. For example on the Delta L1011 DFW the flight deck must have been from a Boeing 747, as there were four throttles (and gauges). It varies greatly but the ‘fact’ part of the show is always sound and to me that is the most important thing.

I am really excited about the new series, my Virgin Media Plus box (its a cable box which has a hard drive in it which can record any programme shown on any network) as long as it’s on Virgin Media had tons of channels! Yay

If you notice carefully the first few seasons has excellent production values in regards to cockpit detail and realism ( the United 747 decompression episode, and Air Transat flight 236) but lately they are using cheap generic cockpits and cabins to cut down costs. I hope that trend dosen't continue.

Oh yes, that was HORRID - I know it can be hard but they sell the series to most of the western world and it would be a shame if they don't improve such important matters.

Looking at the preview for the first in the latest season, the British Air tours Boeing 737-200, I think I noticed the beacon on top of the fuselage flashed white, not red... I hope I am mistaken!

Well there was a period when the quality of graphics and the sets dropped (I think it was series 3), for instance they started using cockpits which were composed of screens behind plywood so "steam" gauges are clearly digital images. Look at the 757 cockpit on the DHL611 midair, which was series 2 strange considering I'm sure they had the 757 cockpit nailed during season one's Aero Peru episode.

On the plus side the production values are far better than seconds from disaster, which has always been way too melodramatic. Unfortunately ACI started to go a touch over the top drama wise in one of the later seasons, I hope they knock that off because it's one of the best shows out there.

As for the generic interior, well I think that they do an OK enough job if you overlook the standard United seats and the layout of the hat-racks.

Remember it's the media, expect gaffes just try to let the small ones slide.

Great, though in the UK the fire brigade have a distinct uniform which doesn't look like that used elsewhere and in the 1980s it was even more distinct. Still not the end of the world though, I'm just glad they are doing this one   (though I really do hope they get it right).

With regards to the mystery episode, I hope that it's the Britannia 757 one, considering what happened I think it is important though it would most probably be the BA777 since it happened at LHR with mass media coverage etc...

See these are the standard for firefighters in Canada effectively. I think the ARFF at Canadian airports have different 'uniforms', and obviously crash trucks instead of the standard fire truck.

I agree that the initial series had much more effort put into attention to detail, but I can only imagine that this contributed to the cost. I'm actually watching the Kazakh/Saudi mid-air collision episode and while it would be nice if both aircraft had more accurate cockpits, it doesn't really detract from the interest and the quality of the explanation given, which is very good. I think that this series is a landmark and provides excellent, amenable details - useful to the professional or the layman (like myself); if they have to cut costs in some way, without compromising on quality of the overall product, I think it's forgivable. I'd much rather see them continue this excellent series.

Anyone know when the new series is airing in the US? I've been digging through Natgeo and Discovery and from what I gather it's called "Air Emergency" being aired on Natgeo. But all I could find were some old episodes being aired Monday morning with no info on the new episodes.

And why they opted for a pic of a parachutist for their "Falling from the Sky" (BA 009) episode is beyond me, lol.

Just saw the first three season 7 episodes:

-British Airtours @ MAN: Should pilots be better alerted if there's a serious fire and they are not aware? It seemed the pilots were following protocol by following their checklist. Would a life-threatening situation override this procedure?

-Air France 296 @ Mulhouse: Nothing really new here. This has been well-documented in the past.

-Northwest 255 @ DTW: By far the ugliest of the three accidents shown so far. Has the airspace "imaginary boundary" been extended since this incident? It seems the pilots could have recovered from the stall had the lighting post not existed in its path. I wonder what the people inside the Avis rental car building were thinking when the right wing sliced through the roof. Also, I didn't know the plane slid partially upside-down in full take-off power down Middlebelt Road in Romulus, before impacting the railroad overpass.
