1/400 Models

Thu Oct 02, 2014 10:37 pm

Does anyone else collect 1/400 scale commercial airliner models?
I recently started and have a collection of 12 at the moment, mainly by Phoenix and GeminiJets. Used to collect Herpa 1/500 in the past, but sold them as I decided that I preferred the slightly bigger scale due to the added details.

I've got the EK A380, EK 77W & SQ 747-400, Ryanair 737-800 and quite a lot of TK models (most of the fleet). Absolutely love them but have barely got enough space to put them, never mind buy more!

I got most of them from www.aircraftmodelstore.co.uk.

I'm very tempted to add the Thomson 737-800 to my collection - it's addictive!

I know the feeling. I have bought multiple of the Boeing replicas. I have the 748i, the 744LCF, and the 788. They're big, and I can't buy anymore as they are already taking up too much space

Model collecting...oh dear.

1:18 racing cars
1:12 racing bikes
1:200, 1:400, 1:500 planes

they breed all by themselves, so watch out, you wake up one day with hundreds of the damn things infesting your home!

I have to stick to very special ones now....planes ive been on, or something with a direct attachment.

don't say I didn't warn you!

I collect models as well, its every addicting, I have a whole room set up just for my model collection.

I currently collect 1/72, 1/200 and 1/400 scale aircraft, and have well over 400 model aircraft. I've also been collecting model fire apparatus and police cars.

Just be careful, because some day you'll find your self out of room like I am. Ha! It helps that my wife is very supportive of my hobby.

Happy Collecting!

Over the years sense the internet has bloomed I've collected only the type of aircraft I've flown on. Started with a Pan Am 707 that I flew on across the Atlantic in the middle 1960s. I now pretty much have about every type of aircraft and airline flown. At least what I can remember..... And as mentioned above I only bought the ones I've flown on...

Yep. Its absorbing - I have a number of them on display and many more crated - probably 100 or so and growing (but more for my new house) I know people that have 4-5 custom cabinets each with over 300 per cabinet,

I collect special liveries and airlines to me. I have a large collection of NZ liveries and most of the aircraft I have seen in AKL over the years. I also purchase a couple each spotting trip I take which are either the bargains I find or which have a relevance for that trip (eg:DL MD80 ATL or KL MD11 AMS)

You've got that right. I started off with just 1, then it was 2, then 3 ... and now I have over 100. I've lost count of how many I've got, some are still in boxes as I have no space to display them. I don't want to know how much I spent on models since I started collecting all those years ago - but as a rough estimate, at least AU$6,000.

Agh I do!

I collect purely 1/400 models, before I would buy random planes or whatever took my fancy, now I have decided to just concentrate on 787s, A380s, and A350s plus a few planes that I may have a sentimental attachment (Planes I have flown or airlines I hold dear)

I currently have.

787s Mostly Phoenix, Gemini Jets and 3 from Witty (Not so good)

788
ANA 787 Livery
JAL
United
LOT Polish
British Airways
Lan Chile (CC-BBA I flew it last december MAD-FRA)
Norwegian (EI-LNA I flew it in August 2013 OSL-BCN)
Qatar Airways
China Southern
Hainan
Air Canada
Aeromexico

789
Boeing House
Air New Zealand all black, beautiful!

A380s
Emirates
Singapore Air
Thai Airways
Korean Air
British Airways
Qantas
China Southern
Air France

A350
Airbus House livery, JC Wings model, pretty nice and apparently much better than the Phoenix one.

Randoms.

Emirates 77W
Qatar Airways 77L (A7-BBI I flew it twice DOH-SIN-DOH
Qatar Airways A333 (A7-AEI I flew it BCN-DOH in 2011)
BA Concorde
Swiss A320

I have a lot more but they are back in their boxes, those above are the ones currently on display.

I buy them usually at AviationRetailDirect in London (but lately they have a lousy stock) e-bay or AviationMegaStore in Amsterdam (This place is just awesome)

I'm a big collector of 1:400, I currently have over 40 planes and just got 3 new planes today! I mostly buy mine from jetwaymodels.com or in stores, for example, the Alaska Airlines Company Store, which has great prices at $15 each for a 1:400 model. I'm trying to recreate LAX in 1:400 with TBIT and most of the other terminals.

Hello all,

Although I only have 1/200 models, but it's likely to change quickly.

I have all the KL models i've flown with:
737 retro PPC (I flew another 738)
772 PPC
A332 PPC
MD-11 PPC
74M Hogan

C-17 Qatar Air Force Hogan

The PPC models are sold by KL on its online shop.
The Quality of PPC is bad, the rear windows of the A330 are wrong, cheatline isn't straight etc. but it's cheap.
The first 2 I bought online but the rest at AviationMegaStore which is as MIAspotter noted is amazing, first time there I thought I was in a museum.

I'll probably get a A10 model in 2015 and I am hoping to find something in Tokyo this Christmas.

Good day

Does anyone have suggestions as to produced the best collection of models of DC-9 and 737-200 aircraft? I really want to re create the look of an American airport from the 70's or 80's with all the airlines who flew DC-9's and 737-200 aircraft back then.

It's more of a research project... Good books are Faded Glory and - or old books of that era. The US is so large, that airports - and the airlines that serve them - vary considerably from region to region. I would pick a region you are interested in - or a group of airlines, both legacy airlines (such as United and Delta) and regional carriers (such as Ozark, Allegheny, Mohawk, Western). PeoplExpress was a colorful airline, but only for a short time during the 1980s. Mixing some of the lesser-known regional carriers with national brands could be quite interesting.

I have purchased a few this week from across the globe - some with every intention to sell and others are for my own collection

Dragon Wings Air New Zealand A320 ALL BLACKS (x5)
Aeroclassics Air New Zealand L-188 3 Pack
Aeroclassics Air New Zealand DC-8-52 ZK-NZC (TEAL tail)
Herpa Antonov AN-124 - Antonov Airlines
Herpa Antonov AN-225 - Antonov Design Bureau
JC Wings McDonnell Douglas MD-11 - KLM
JET-X ANSETT NEW ZEALAND BAe 146-200 & 300 TWIN PACK (x2)

I'm chasing my own tail right now, trying to get 2 NZ models in my favourite quintessential NZ livery. DC8-52 with koru tail. and DC10-30 with same livery.

Hi guys,

I have over one hundred 1/400 models.

All are boxed after moving house, except a few that stay on permanent display: EVA Cargo A380F, American Airlines L-500 Galaxy, Lufthansa Fanhansa Siegerflieger 747-8... I keep the boxed ones in a secure, fire proof location not in my home.

Just this week, I have taken delivery of the following:
Etihad A380 in the brilliant new colourscheme
Etihad A340-600 in the now-old colourscheme, with F1 titles
Air Canada 777-300ER in 'Vancouver 2010' CG livery
Canadian Pacific Britannia
British Airways 'Bauhus' CRJ
British Airways 'Chelsea Rose' CRJ

Today I ordered an Azerbaijan Dreamliner.

My 'wish list' is topped by the only 757 Combi built, flown by Nepal Airlines, and a wingletted Air Nuigini 757. 'Wunula Dreaming' is also highly desired, plus more BA 'World Tails' to complete my collection. I currently have 16 of the 28 main tail designs, some on multiple models. I also want anything East West Airlines plus TAA.

I have issues with displaying my models... Any suggestions?

-Etihad A380
-Azerbaijan 787
-Vietnam 787
-Vietnam A350
-Finnair A350

Not bad huh? LOL

I have a bunch of models that I want to sell on, anyone here that may be interested? I can draw up a list.

Yes please. I have sent you an IM...

And a great list of purchases. I have three of them (AZ 787, VN A350, EY A380) and wouldn't mind eventually purchasing a Finnair A350: an airline missing so far from my collection.

Cheers mate, Looking forward to hearing from you!

BTW: I am still waiting for my ordered Singapore SG50 A380, Delta 757-300 with winglets, RAF 50th Anniv VC-10, American E170, Pepsi Concorde and BA/Singapore Concorde: all on order and eagerly awaited!

Thanks, and yes, lovely models that add a bit of variety to my collection, specially the AZAL and VN Dreamliners in my sea of white and blue Dreamliners lol.

The AY A350 is really nice, but I always suggest to get the JC Wings A350 model which is really good

Hey I agree! I have been known to buy 1/400 models based on the main colour of the plane. I have been eyeing off an Etihad A330 in the 'shopping' purple colourscheme just because it is purple. Likewise, I want an Air Greenland A330 because it is all red! I bought a KLM MD-11 (the 'last flight' one) just because it was blue and I wanted a KLM model in my collection. I like to have a variety of colours represented...

Can I suggest the China Southern Dreamliner with the wings design on the upper fuselage even though it is blue and white! And the metallic silver Jetstar Dreamliner may be a cool addition to your collection...

So far the only A350 I have is the Vietnam one... contemplating the Singapore one but waiting to see if Singapore do in fact 'refresh' their colourscheme with the introduction of the type...

Cheers,

That's always what annoys me, when they produce the model before type delivery and it ends up never being delivered like that. They did that with NZ 788s which of course were changed to -9s and a new livery before they were delivered.. Same as when they release prior to the airline publishing the rego sequence. I don't want those in my 1/400 fleet

I took delivery of 2x NZ 762/763 in -90s stripes this week, the Tintin A320, a Viasa/KLM 880, Pacific Blue 738 last week

Awaiting delivery of
LH Siegerflieger and retro 748s
NZ 733 Pacific wave ZK-NGM
NH Star Wars 763/77W/789
TK 77W San Francisco livery
and 4 mystery box aircraft from my favourite supplier.

I love getting surprises. I have ended up with some absolute rippers and it costs me less to order like that.

Dragon Wings
-Qantas 737-300

Herpa
-Germanwings A319 both standard old
livery and the Berlin Bearbus

Geminijets
-Easyjet A319
-Avianca 767-300 old livery, this one had a nose gear collapse... but I fixed it.

-BA 757-200 (older Gemini mould)

1/500
-EVA 777W onboard purchase
