Most Important Development Since The Wright Flyer

Tue Oct 28, 2014 3:27 am

Since the development of the Wright Flyer in 1903, what do you all think has been the most important development in aviation since? I know its kind of a broad topic, but I'm writing a paper about it and would greatly appreciate your thoughts so I can start to narrow it down. Thanks.

Pressurized cabins, permitting higher, faster and more comfortable air travel.

Possibly, but I'd probably attribute that technology to submarines. However it has definitely been an important development.
I'd probably say the jet engine. Eventually led to faster than sound travel and higher and more efficient flights.

How about the development of the ability to carry hundreds of people around the world in hours not days or weeks, and make it affordable to the average traveller? I know it's broad, but all the developments are linked to this?

The DC-3 brought many things that became standard.

Rocket engines led the way in supersonic capability for years before a jet engine managed it...
