How Do You Say SAS?

Wed May 06, 2015 9:21 pm

I've recently been working with the SK team at MAN, I was wondering do you refer to SK as [said like] Sass or S-A-S. I always say it like S-A-S however my colleagues say Sass.

I'm interested in knowing how you others say it

On a similar note, I've never known how to say Flybe. I'm pretty sure it's "Fly-Bee", or is it "Fly-B-E"? "Flybe"? (all one word, rhyming with bribe)

I've always said it Fly-Bee, that's how their crew and ground agents say it

Usually I say "Scandinavian".... Just to make sure
But apart from that my guess would have been S-A-S

I say it more like Saas. But I guess it's close to Sass.

Oh, way back, when I was a wee lad, it was "Scandinavian Airlines System" written out in longhand on such state-of-the-art airliners as the DC-8 and Caravelle. Abbreviation SAS on the tail.

Now, it's SAS and "Scandinavian Airlines" - shorter, yes, but does not quite fit the acronym.

It seems that many Scandinavians say "Sass". Personally, I prefer "S-A-S" or "Scandinavian Airlines".

I prefer S-A-S as it sounds more professional to me :P just like the British Special Air Service   But many people in Denmark say Sass.

Sass all the way

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

E-V-A Air is such a mouthful, its much easier and more fun to say it ee-vah, like the name.

In Scandinavian we say Sass, you'll hear airline executives and personnel say that as well.

In English, I say Scandinavian Airlines or (less often) S-A-S, and for the most part executives and airline crew would say it like that as well.

My Chinese colleague and I say SARS after experiencing a pretty terrible delay.
In Sweden almost everyone says Sass, my brother says "Kass" (meaning useless in Swedish) after another delay.

This is something new to me and I guess a lot of people outside Scandinavia don't know it is pronounced Sass. I always thought it is S-A-S like KLM. Looking forward to flying Sass in September HKG-ARN. Hope the flight will be good.

I always say S-A-S and A-N-A but EVA
But I don't mind anyone pronouncing it differently.

Anyone pronouncing QANTAS as Q-A-N-T-A-S?

Always said it as S-A-S, but whenever I have flown them they refer to themselves more as Scandinavian Airlines than SAS.

At BHX us ground crew call them FlyMayBe with the amount of technical issues the Dash 8s have.

S-A-S, similar to T-W-A, and B-O-A-C, by pronouncing each letter separately.
Slightly off topic. The Boeing 707 was usually pronounced seven-OH-seven, even though the middle item is a number, and not a letter. Hardly anyone said seven-zero-seven.
