Any Level D Sims Open To Public?

Thu Jun 25, 2015 4:32 pm

I know UA used to offer a program to civilians. Are there any level D sims open to the public these days? One of my dreams is to be able to fly one!

Try British Airways at LHR. Not sure if they still do, but you used to be able to pay a lot of money to go one their sims (we got my son a 3 hour session on one of their 757 sims for Christmas 2 years ago for £1,000 including an instructor captain)

The Delta museum in ATL has a 737-200 full motion open to the public.

It's possible to try the A380 sim with Lufthansa flight training.

You can arrange time through Flight Safety. I use to do it all the time.

Look at FTI. I'm sure they would give you flight training in a 737 sim. Won't be cheap though. It's done at the UA DENTK.

I have no experience with them. but there is this outfit near LAS:

Alteon (Boeing) used to have their facility open to the public at LGB. Prices were something like $149 an hour about 10 years ago.
I flew the 737NG, 717, and MD-11 sims, total time was about 10 hours over a year and a half. The 737 and 717 were level D and the MD-11 was level C, if I recall correctly. It closed and the 717 sim moved to ATL.

GOSH DAMN! $799/hr to fly a B737NG sim? Start working on your pilot's license and you'll be flying level D simulators A LOT.

Although it is not open to the public, I flew a P3 Orion sim a few days ago when I was in Oahu and visited my cousin is stationed there. Was pretty fun and amazing.

Only if you end up at an airline or a bizjet, which given the current hiring environment in the US, would be at least 2 or 3 years down the road.
