Very Exciting To See DL Flying 727s Again

Fri Nov 20, 2015 1:00 am

Well, at least according to the image accompanying this story about DL's new service from ATL to Grand Bahama Island. It's even got the correct livery on it and everything!

Very good spot! Happily it's just a media error.

What makes it worse is that it's a flight simulator screenshot. I'm sure they stole this from some FS forum post so they could get around royalty fees for a real image of a DL plane.

EDIT: Found their source! http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloa...oeing-727-200-n400da/

All the airlines' media webpages have high quality photos to use.

Now, now, don't give DL management any ideas. If the current DL management team was there after 9/11, the 727s would still be in the DL fleet today.

Unfortunately for ATL, there's virtually no pax 727s left, so we won't see an MD-90 or 717-style buying spree.

DLS livery suits the 727 very well!
When wasn't America great?

Some of them were........it's a myth that ALL of DL's current management came from NW.

It's a very beautiful livery on the 727. I miss the 727's as the main backbone aircraft in this country.
Why endure the nightmare and congestion of LAX when BUR, LGB, ONT & SNA is so much easier to fly in and out of. Same with OAK & SJC when it comes to SFO.

If those images are available for news outlets to use free of charge, that makes it even more perplexing as to why they'd go into a flightsim download site to get a picture.

Damn! The 727 looks gorgeous in DL's current livery. Then again, the 727 looks good in ANY livery!

How I'd love to see a DL 727 one more time, complete with rotating red beacons...and rotating wingtip nav lights.

My bet is that the person assigned the task of finding a photo, simply did a google image search, and then picked the image they liked the best. I think some people have forgotten that there are other ways to access internet besides google.

And, of course, they picked a 727 image!   What a gorgeous aircraft.

The actual N400DA (which was a DL 727) was last for sale in 2006, and the registration wasn't dropped until 2012.

I wonder if press do things like this on purpose, just to get more hits on the page... They put some work into making it wrong.

I can't find the article now, but it's still better than that news story about SkyWest (the US regional airline) and they used a picture of a Fokker from Skywest (now Virgin Australia).

It's a shame they never kept one for the museum. It was the backbone for Delta for so many years!

Happily?

Sadly. I loved flying on the 727. Of course, as our very own tb727 said, the A320 needs the fuel at top of climb for a 1.5 hour flight that the 727 needed at top of descent.

And besides, the 727 would probably be a 175 seat aircraft with todays optimilazation.

You're all wrong. What you are seeing is an artist's rendering of the 737 SuperMAX Next Generation EEO (extra engine option). They have simply moved the engines to the rear to aid in wing efficiency and added a third engine for better range and capacity. The MAX is not - contrary to news reports - the last 737. Delta is the launch customer.

The ol' girl has life left in her yet!

On topic, the 727 200 was probably one of my top ten favorite aircraft for aesthetics. It's a real shame they are gone.

I can remember when any number of local or national TV news outlets, when the story was about anything to do with an airline, would have a stock photo of a DL Tristar on the screen, behind the reporter.

I would venture to say that's a DC9 behind that B737....looks like the same size engine intakes
