Hi all,
I’m planning to visit JASDF Hyakuri this November, along with spotting at some other interesting bases like Iruma and Atsugi. While I’m mostly keen on photographing Phantoms, it is most likely that I might spend 2~3 days at Hyakuri and move to other places.
It looks like Hyakuri offers a great spotting location in the morning, where the plane literally passes right in front of you. I submitted a photo below:
Now my question is, will 70-300mm work at this spot? I’m using Canon 70D with Tamron 70-300mm and deemed 70mm would be little bit too much for this location and MIGHT get photos overcropped. Will it be possible to get a full side-on shots of F-4 at 70mm without being overcropped, just like the ones above? Or do you guys actually suggest me to use shorter lenses like 24-105 or 17-85?
Another question is about the language. I can hardly speak any Japanese except for some real basic stuffs. However it seems that I have to call the landlord to let me into the morning spotting tower, which obviously will cause me a lot of hassles. Would you suggest me to accompany local spotter or is there any other ways to deal with them?
I tried my best to answer on those questions by myself on Google, but it didn’t come up with any clear results! Help from this forum would be much appreciated!
Thank you!
