It’s always nice with new photos and photographers! A semi-pro photographer friend told me ”the best camera is the one you have at hand”. Forgot your 2000 Euro Nikon? Shoot with your mobile. If the object is stunning, so will the photo be. If you have that Nikon with you, it will also be of stunning quality. Perhaps ”Aviation Photography” would be a better forum to post this question in? Ask there and I’m sure you’ll receive a zillion suggestions.

You mentioned you have two photos in the queue - what equipment did you use to photograph them?

Personally, in my experience, any DSLR from Canon or Nikon would work best, though sometimes it could be on the high end of pricing; an iPhone would work fine, though you won't get the best experience as you would with a DSLR (I did had a iPhone photo accepted to the a.net DB once), as photo quality is sometimes not up to par with DSLRs.

What camera is best? It's like asking how long a piece of string is, unfortunately. The best camera is the one that's going to get you the image you want, and that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be your most expensive. What's more important is the lens you attach to the camera. People recommend the heck out of lenses such as the Canon 70-200s and the 100-400.... but they're pretty useless if most of your work is done at 50mm!

The best cameras don't always produce the best images - it's about balance - generally full-frame cameras are considered better than FOVCF, however many of us here keep a couple of FOVCF bodies alongside our FFs (and for good reason).

It'a also important to recognise that lower megapixel cameras actually have better resolving power in a way, because they place less demand on lenses. Some of the cleanest, punchiest images ever seen came from the original Canon EOS 5D (12mp), and I think you'd be hard pressed to better them, even with today's high-performance bodies. As the old adage goes, bigger isn't always better.

Karl, I couldn't agree more with your comments about megapixels, although my 7000 has 16.something, it is excellent at higher ISO's. Bigger isn't always better indeed. As for best bodies, that depends on so many factors. Budget, needs, ISO requirements, which lens system/brand you want, etc. My advice is pick a lens system you like, invest in quality glass, and then buy a midrange consumer body if you have the funds leftover. I started with a D3100 and had moderate success, upgraded to a D7000 x2 and couldn't be happier. Lenses, I have the kit stuff still, so that's the limiting factor. I should have bought better glass from the start, so I urge you to invest in lenses over bodies.

I think we reached the pinnacle between 12-16mp; that perfect balance of clean images and sufficient detail. I just don't rate images from 24mp cameras as highly as I rate those from 12mp cameras - sure, they offer more detail, but not on a per pixel basis. A 24mp sensor in my opinion doesn't offer twice as much detail as a 12mp sensor. It's worth remembering that you need to spend a lot of money to get a lens that can properly resolve even only 70% of a 24mp sensor!

My D800e takes far better images than the older D3S, a 12mp camera. Those 36.3mp D800e images still leave me amazed.

I can resize down to 3000x2000 and not need to do any further editing. The image at that size is already very sharp.

Amazing- and it isn't a gigantic brick of a thing. Superb.

One thing right you said, you have to use very good lenses with it. Poorer ones are obvious.

And so it should, all things considered - but does it take images 3x as detailed as those from your old 12mp camera? I can't speak for Nikon but I've yet to find an up-to-date Canon DSLR (i.e. 20+ megapixels) that competes on a per-pixel level with the older models. I've had to upgrade to the latest L glass recently to get the most out of my two modern DSLRs (FF and FOVCF), and I'd say I'm still not resolving the full power of the sensors.

You're going to get rejections, this site has very high standards. Don't take it too hard, post over in the feedback forum, screeners/one of us (likely both) will be happy to help you out.

I was hoping to win at least £50,000 in this week's lottery but it didn't happen. Life's tough sometimes......

The image Kas linked above is pretty unspectacular, and if the link is reflective of the quality then I'm not surprised it was rejected.

To be blunt, NO, that is nowhere near good enough.

Don't be discouraged - it takes quite a bit of practice to develop an eye for what A.net accepts.

It's entirely up to you whether or not you try again, but I would go through the image database and familiarise yourself with the kind of standards you'll need to adhere to here. Getting all worked up after having clearly sub-par images rejected is a waste of everyone's time (yours included).

I don't think you did, as I rejected this image some minutes ago: https://imgproc.airliners.net/photos/ai ... 0ba542fe17

Get a good camera, take photos during sunny weather, have the aircraft relatively close to you and the sun in your back.Your current uploads are incredibly poor quality and look like a photo from an old model mobiel phone. Uploading these photos is a waste of time for both of us.

At this point in time, I'm seriously wondering if you're just trolling.
