About the New WEBP Picture Format

Sat Feb 23, 2019 11:01 am

I've noticed that the newly accepted photos in database have a WEBP format instead of JPG. What makes me puzzled is that one of my photo have been very poorly compressed.

(Please note the registration number of the fuselage, the quality looks terrible. That wasn't the case before I uploaded it.)
Some other people's pictures don't look like that. Does this have anything to do with the watermark?

Thanks!

The photo is rendering as JPG on my end, i.e. right click, open image in new tab, and it is a JPG file.
People are saying. Believe me.

Someone else has reported this as well, I've sent an inquiry E-mail to the higher ups.

I don't know what's the difference between the file formats mentioned but since this happened I am unable to download photos because the function 'save to' seems to be blocked. Any ideas why?

Hi
I've found that this is a browser problem. I've been using Chrome before, but I found that when I used IE, the images were still in JPG format and clear enough.

Yes, I found that the problem was really related to the browser I used. When I used IE browser, everything was fine.

Thanks!

I'm using Firefox, but also have the same. A colleague HS looked up what WEBP's are exactly and there doesn't seem to be a loss in quality associated with that format (compared to JPG)(?)
