Is the photographers choice now being misused too? It has been gamed in the past on a few occasions if I remember right.

I wouldn’t have looked there if it weren’t for this topic.

I’m not naming anyone or pointing at any photos.

I was just wondering that myself...

If it is, then those doing so should be given their marching orders.

Or another way would be to list all votes for photographers choice against each photo.

IIRC the PC system has a relatively low threshold for voted photos. This means that photos don't have to have massive numbers of votes for them to become PC. I'm not sure how many votes though and I also don't know how often and how many people vote. Trying to vote once a day is ideal, not just when a photo with a 'WOW'-factor gets online.

I too would be interested in seeing the numbers of votes per photo, but it's been this way since the site relaunch and I doubt it will change anytime soon.

Be realistic, Photographer's choice is a mess right now.
As noted before apparently you have others voting for rather normal shots of people in order to discredit them, you have people using their family accounts to vote for their "father's" shots and whatever else going on to appear there.

Sure the threshold is low and it can be blamed still I find it very questionable (diplomatically said) what people make out of it. Just because it is easy to cheat is not an excuse for doing so.

In the current state of the site it likely won't change...but in my opinion the best way would be to just get rid of it or publish the voters under each shot.

I agree with allowing people to see who voted for PC.

I emailed the site manager several days ago asking him to look into this (not the first time I asked). He choose not to respond.

It should be pretty easy to see which user account(s) are voting for what photos. I see another one of my photos has made PC again. It is a shame that someone is selfish enough to act like this. Hopefully it can be resolved as it makes the site look stupid. It is a relatively new thing, so it should be easy to track down. My guess would be either someone who was previously banned or kicked off the site.

I can assure you low voting is much more likely than that ever happening. I vote for legitimately-deserving PC photos including the four that were earned before the most recent one. I know you're talking about me, and you're childish attacks are really quite silly.

It is not a relatively new thing, I clearly remember this happening many years ago.

But why are they only seemingly going after your photos (assuming this isn't some big charade)? Surely the other screeners must equally have people who are angry with them too?

The whole thing is just sad - I'm very glad not to be a part of it. The whole bitchy competitiveness and the rude manner of some people especially in their remarks about the photos taken by other people is very disappointing.

If I could, I'd simply make the voting for photographers choice completely public - show who voted for each photo.

This is, unfortunately, the way the hobby in general seems to be going. At one time this was a friendly and inclusive pastime but now the 'prize' for being a d**k seems to be more views than everybody else. Like it somehow matters... yet today's measure of a photographer's skill seems to be how many people he/she can get to view his/her work.

Pathetic and disappointing indeed.

Very well said. No kneed to act like 5 years olds when making comments. Plain and simple.

:checkmark:

There was a large to-do about it probably 3 or 4 years ago.

Royal is not a screener anymore (unless something changed recently).

Which, of course, includes the unnecessary comments in this very thread starter.
