What monitor's are we all using?

Mon Dec 30, 2019 1:10 am

Bought a Dell UP2516D Monitor with PremierColor and I hate it. It seems over saturated to me, or maybe this is how things are supposed to look and my last display was mud. Just curious what everyone is using for photo editing these days.

1680×1050 anti-glare display on my mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro. Not looking forward to the day when I have to make a change.

AOC Q2577PWQ 2560x1440, calibrated with a X-Rite Colormunki display.
This is the monitor I use with my PC, and I bought it after finding out it used the same LG IPS panel as Dell were using in their more expensive Ultrasharp model.
I can't remember which site it was, but there is a site that lists which panels different monitors use which is useful when comparing monitors if you find models from different manufacturers that use the same panel.

I also use a MacBook Pro when travelling.

That Dell looks like a very good monitor for the specs/price: "100% sRGB color gamut, 99% Adobe RGB color gamut". Have you done a good calibration on it? I use DisplayCAL with a Spyder 5 puck. I run at 130cd/m2 with 65k gamma on it's cousin and am pleased with the results. The NEC's or EIZO's are just a bit out of my wallet right now.

It seems like it would be great, even better I got it around $250 on cyber Monday. No, I have not done any calibration. Since it's supposed to come out of the box calibrated and ready to go, I figured I was all set. The big turn off for me and I hope it's not like this for all 100% sRGB monitors, is that the red/orange hue's almost look neon. Looking at my 9 year old U2211H and this 2516D, the difference is night and day. But the unnatural saturation is a big turn off at this point. Maybe I'll get the calibration software and give it one more chance.

Thanks all for the replies.

Apple LED Cinema Display 27" and the even older Apple A1083 Cinema Display HD 30".

The A1083 is really the best screen for photo editing.

Datacolor Spyder X Pro for the win. Thanks for the recommendation, looks 100x better now.
