Vintage: exact year screened faster than estimated year?

Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:56 am

Hello,

I've been wondering why some of my vintage slidescans get screened quickly and other stay in queue till, well, pretty much they're the only ones left in queue from the day I uploaded.
Thought it was just a quality thing, that the very good ones go faster than the less good ones.

But now I noticed: the ones that get screened quiclky are the ones where I entered an exact year in the date.
The ones going slow are the ones where I didn't know the year and entered an estimation like "early 1990's".
So it seems to be a triage thing, based on year. It's a bit weird, because "early 1990's" is a decent indication of the time period too... .

Could this be a reason?

Vintage images are assigned to a separate screening queue based on the date the photo was taken as entered into the date field. Anything 1992 and prior is diverted to this queue.

Yes, I understood from a post in another thread that there's a different screening queue for older shots.
Thing I noticed that if I enter "early 1990's", the shots end up in the regular queue with apparently very difficult screening. Often with several screeners asking for second opinion, sometimes even ending up with the head screeners.
This doesn't happen when I enter at least an exact year. Then they're either accepted or rejected with good feedback pertty quickly.
This isn't a complaint by far. It's just a weird observation I make...

I think what happens is that when a specific year is not input, it goes into the regular queue and the the screeners defer the screening to those on the vintage screening team...therefore the Second Opinions. Unfortunately, it is a structural limitation with the present set up.

Cheers,

Where did the 1992 come from? It was always pre-digital ie about 2002. Is this another rule that has been implemented without any advise to the community?

Sorry, meant to say 2002.
