Cockpit/Cabin Shot Advice

Tue Oct 20, 2020 11:56 pm

Hello all!

I was just looking this fantastic shot by David Lednicer, and was curious if any of you have advice on how to take shots like this where you can properly expose both the outside and the inside of the aircraft simultaneously. I'm still learning a lot of basics about photography and have a similar opportunity soon that I don't want to screw up!

If it helps, I use a Nikon D750.

Thank you!

You will need to shoot in manual mode, expose for the outside light conditions, then use fill flash to properly expose the cockpit. If you look at the panels at the very top, you can see what looks like shadow from the flash. Make sure the flight crew is OK with you popping a flash though.

Anyone try using a gradation filter?
