Unfortunately I'm far from an expert on the technical aspects of scanners.
I'm using a Nikon Coolscan V ED, purchased about 15 years ago. It delivers very high quality, but is not exactly a cheap choice. Also no longer available and I see the 2nd hand ones go at crazy prices, perhaps even higher than what I payed when it was new.
Yet considering the quality it delivers, you could check the characteristics of the Nikon Coolscan scanners and see what is available with similar characteristics.
The only thing I struggle with is the brightness of slides that are on the dark side. They tend to be very hard to get to look good.
I've also tried using a flatbed scanner in slidescan mode, but the quality doesn't come close. Although I did manage to get some accepted here done with that scanner. Not as sharp as the Coolscan scans, but then again, not all my slides are razor sharp either.
I'm now testing another fairly low budget film scanner, but first tests are very poor. Perhaps it needs a learning curve, but why bother if I've got a very good machine already.
