New MacBook Air for editing.

Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:05 pm

Hello,

I currently own an iMac 27 which is starting to show it’s age. I was wondering if anyone in here uses the new MacBook Air with the M1 processor for photo editing, is it good and is it worthy?

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

Greetings

I use a M1 Mac Mini which is basically the same computer as the M1 Macbook Air in a different form factor and it's way more capable than any of my previous Intel Mac computers, if you can afford it add go for 16GB of RAM. In any case I would recommend to use an external monitor as dealing with retina pixel density can be challenging.

Might be worth waiting a couple of weeks as Apple is supposed to announce a new set of M2 computers around March 7th so you can go for the new one if it's compelling or just get a M1 at a discount.

I have the Macbook air with the M1 chip, and its honestly very impressive for a machine of its size and portability. It might struggle in lightroom at times with lots of edits, and bulk exporting is going to be slower, but in general I think its a very good machine for traveling.

Yeah I was planning to get it with 16GB of RAM and also using an external display for it.

I’m aware of the coming Apple M2 announcement so I’m definitely waiting for it to see whats coming up.

I second the suggestion to wait, although there are some good deals right now on M1 - $829 i've seen.
