Best plane spotting locations in sydney - (Bankstown and Mascot)

Hello all, as of next friday I will be in Sydney for the day doing some plane and I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to spot planes and both Bankstown and at Mascot? Thankyou

Hi Hadleigh

In the morning Shep's Mound would be best as the light is behind you and most of the traffic for 16L/34R will taxi past very close. Depending on which runways are in use in the afternoon and the type of shot you would like either the beach carpark or staff carpark are good vantage points.

If you have $$$ - Sydney Helitours is another spitting location, from the inside of a helicopter. No idea if that’s still allowed but it used to be the thing many people did.

I used them a few times and found the pilot quite okay. I don't know if it's still the same guy or if it is still possible - it was around $800/hour.

Hi

It's still allowed thought the cost is closer to $1,240 an hour plus $80 landing fee. Chief pilot is still there and Brett is also very good.

To get there you will need a car, unless you are brave and want to try public transport. It's simple enough once you get there, just drive/walk into every street you can on the northern side where most of the airport facilities are, you will find plenty of view points. Please keep in mind that Bankstown is very much a general aviation airport, with the odd larger aircraft movement and occasional biz jet. You can get very close to the approach end on the western side and if you like the smaller bug smashers, you'll enjoy yourself.
