What Was Up With MAN 2day?!?!

Thu Mar 13, 2003 1:32 am

I just got back, I am telling ya the viewing area was packed. I know that there were some extra SWISS charters, but it was busier than when concord came!!!.

2day was okay, bit cold. Too cloudy for "Dot" spotting. Had some funny moments tho.

I was at the viewing park from about 9am until 3.30pm and I've never seen it so busy. A queue to get in at 8.45am!!The extra Swiss charters probably drew some of the crowds but the weather wasn't too great - at least it didn't rain (much). Looks like a lot of people had "sickies" today !!

Well imagine what it will be like on 28th May! Especially if it's two non-British teams in the Old Trafford final. I've already booked the day off. Will people be camping at the gate? Putting towels down?
It looks like Runway 2 will become a parking area if it is 2 foreign teams, all we need is the weather and Madrid v Rome! (guess who I don't support!)

Cheers,

Jon

I had to work today, but fortunately I went to see a client in Manchester in the afternoon, so I spent my lunch hour at the 06R threshold. I saw a Cyprus new colours A320(?), Neos 737-800, Swiss MD80, Swiss A330, Eidelweiss A320 and Cargolux 744, all in the space of about 45 minutes. And we even had a spot of sunshine. All the lanes leading to southside were packed with cars too.

There are some 90 gates at MAN (actually a bit more!)....excluding T3 for BA +domestic, we're talking 60ish available gates that will probably be used, of which about 30 are remote. Some can handle 2 aircraft at the same time....so, assuming that they will keep around 20 to 25 gates freeish for "normal MAN operations", there should be enough room for everyone to park on stand, disembark and park remote. If two "big name" sides make it through, then 24L may be brought into play from the afternoon onwards.

You guys had better hope Man Utd and Arsenal dont get to the final  Big grin Although with Arsenal, suppose there is always the chance of BA putting 747s and 777s on the shuttle services...

We hope that its an italian team that get in the final. As the italians are massive footie fans so they will come in flocks.

I want

Real Madrid vs AC Milan

We will get some nice stuff then. Also there COULD be a chance of some south american stuff if a spanish team get into the final.

But knowing our luck it will be Man Utd VS Arsenal hehe.
