The 10D effectively addresses most of the issues identified in the D60. Significant improvements include the AF system (much much better), high ISO performance (better noise reduction, allows up to ISO 3200) and a completely revised and much better LCD panel & review system.

There are many other minor improvements and enhancements which make the 10D an overall more responsive camera.

Image quality is about the same - images are slightly softer straight out of the camera and colour is less saturated but more natural. Of course these are things easily altered in Photoshop.

Exposure seems more accurate BUT offers less protection from blown highlights. Experienced D60 users will have to pay more attention to their metering!

Cheers,

Colin

Hi,

Gary, as sold the 10D doesn't appear to come with an LCD cover and I'm not entirely sure if they're available for purchase now or even in the near future. I'm worried sick about any hairline scratches appearing on it though.

Whilst not being a technical nutcase, I do have to say that it's a fantastic piece of equipment. Spent yesterday evening catching up on the full review at www.dpreview.com and as Colin previously mentioned, the AF system is deemed impeccable.

Having laid my sticky fingers on a friend's D60 only once, I'm not really in a position to compare the two. However, the most significant difference between them is indeed the price tag!

It's just a shame that I don't have more time on my hands at the moment to head out and shoot with my new gem.

Regards,

Paul.

As said, no cover. So you could a) not worry about it ... my D60 has survived a year of hard use without a scratch or b) buy the palmtop screen protectors (I believe originally your idea Gary?) and cut to size.

Cheers,

Colin

Hi all

Colin, yes I use the Palmtop screen protector for both the LCD and the display at the top of the camera. No scratches yet  Smile

Would have been nice to have something that the Nikons have......not sure if the D100 has one.

Cheers

The 10D is the better camera.

But don't make the mistake of expecting great shots out the camera - they all need some work in Photoshop.

I can't compare the two cameras, my concern was the quality of my existing EF lenses. Prospective buyers may be interested in the two very early examples take with my brand new EOS 10D.

Thanks for the reviews of the 10D from the various contributors, they were of great assistance to me in making my decision to go with the camera.

Is my 10D the first to get sent back for repair? The extra dust Canon left for me needs removing. I just hope I didn't pay extra for that dust!  Smile

Lee,

Do you know how the dust got in there? Were you careless/unlucky with a lens change?

Craig.

Dust spots were showing the first time I used the camera. I cleaned it only to have more appear, so I cleaned it again and once again I had more in different places. It now going back to be replaced.  Sad

Never had any problems with the D60.

I sold the D60 to Tony Silgrim today! Park were originally offering £800 on trade in but I think that has come down a bit since the world and his dog seems to have traded up. I'm quite happy with the 10D results, once I've cloned to dust out.

Your 10D may have been the first to go back, but its not the only one!

I took it in to a place in Stoke today for a sensor clean (kinda my own fault it was dirty though). They cleaned the sensor but found a small scratch on the under side of the glass above the CMOS! Said it wasn't anything I've done and its got to go back to Park. Hopefully can get it changed pretty quickly though, weather looks good for the next week or so.

A friend of mine in the UK had his 10D delievered the other day...took a couple of shots with it and it packed in just giving him an error code. (I forgot which one...) Drive to Park Camera from the Rochester area...they replaced it flat out (after giving him the option of them just resetting/reloading the software.)

Yes, the D100 has one...

Most of the 10D improvements were implemented yet in the D100, so I think it's been a wise move from Canon. Now let Canon put a good Auto White Balance and you Canon guys would have a 10!!! Big thumbs up

Please don't bomb me with C vs N posts as I'm going to be out for some days  Wink/being sarcastic

Never had any problems with the D60

I went a long time with no significant dust problems on the D60 - nothing that couldn't be handled with a blower, but in the last few weeks I got some spots which just wouldn't shift. Decided to get some Eclipse fluid and sensor swabs - very expensive, but they did the job perfectly.

My 10D has remained clean so far.

I think it is very easy to get obsessional about this - testing at f22 against a blue sky may reveal a few spots, but in practice these will seldom affect a real picture.

Cheers,

Colin
