Concordes Last Commercial Service, Plans?

Thu Sep 18, 2003 5:40 am

Hi guys,

Obviously the time is drawing nearer, to the day when Concorde departs on its last trip to New York, and arrives back in London for the last time. I'm sure many people here already have plans for going to see it, and probably arranged it with others too.

Just a couple of thoughts, does anyone have a contacts with anyone at LHR? Does anyone know if there is any chance of being able to get a bus from the ramp to the runway for the last arrival/departure? Is anyone interested in that? Does anyone have ramp access anyway, for that day? Does anyone know if there is anyone I can get in contact with over this?

It would be great, if we could get together and then get close to 27R/09L, for some excellent pictures similar to that of Vasco's/Joe/Mike's photos from JFK after AF's last Concorde flights.

Any thoughts/plans? Who else is going?

Cheers

Dan

I do believe the last commercial service to JFK departs on the 23/10/03. No doubt there will be a fair amount of Press, including international press around for this one.

Now, if you can get air-side access for that day, I will would walk over hot coles to join you.

Anyway, as us Londoners know, October can be an absolutely dire month for weather, rain and the rest, so don't pin your hopes on having fantastic photos. Given, the rather good summer we've experienced this year, we've had the pleasure, (sun) no doubt theres gonna a big dose of pain, sorry, rain!!

Dan 99.9% no chance of airside access for "enthusiasts", remember this is BAA were talking about!

I guess the above Photos have been taking with rampaccess? Addiotionally I would like to know which is the best internetsite for LHR spotting tips? I do prefer to shoot planes in action, eg on landing or takeoff, where to go?

thx vm in advance

If LHR would offer such a bus for that event, I'd even pay for that  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hopefully the last JFK arrival comes in a bit earlier to get it with the last sun rays...

Hi

I'm gonna be there from 21th to 23rd of October. I still need to book a hotel. It will probably be the Renaissance hotel.

Rotate: Wanna me up on the 23rd??

Sorry guys, but for the last regular scheduled services, the departures and arrivals are going to be in the dark...!!!

Sunset times for London...

October 23, 2003 7:37 AM 5:52 PM
October 24, 2003 7:39 AM 5:50 PM
October 25, 2003 7:41 AM 5:48 PM

Concorde scheduled service times:

BA001 LHR-JFK dep LHR 18:30
BA002 JFK-LHR arr LHR 18:00

So your only hope is the "Tour of Britain" flights...

Andy

The JFK-LHR flight on the 24th is retimed to arrive LHR at 1600 approx so it will still be light but may not be sunny.

It is a shame that spots are limited at LHR, why they didnt bring it to ZRH  Innocent
Anyway, I bet Manchester Airport will look for his spotters, by providing good spotting places ...

If the weather is good, I think I'm going down on the 24th. If anyone can't make it, Concorde is doing a 'Tour Of Britain' from the 20th October until the 24th visiting the following cities:

Manchester
Belfast
Birmingham
Cardiff
Edinburgh

For the dates (which have not yet been released, and should be in the next week or so) go to:

Mr.Best's take-off shot was from the end of 09R, outside the perimeter.

I've had the odd request from some non Brits. wanting take-off times for BA1 in October. I can only second Andy's comments.

Actually, the dates are known, I believe.

You can already book your place on a spotters gallery at Cardiff airport's web page (by e-mailing them), but they kindly request at least £1 donation on the day...

From Cardiff Airport's News Pages:

Concorde will land at 11:45hrs on October 23rd 2003 and depart at 16:05hrs.

Now where was the address to contact for prebooking a place in some visitor's terrace?

For picture 1 Tony does have airside access at LHR so I presume this was taken with that advantage.

You never know you may even see 3 Concordes airborne on the 24th  Wink/being sarcastic

Is it true about the 3 concorde flypast + the red arrows on 24th October at 16:00???

I also heard that two of them will land on either runway whilst the third and the red arrows will continue to Filton.

Anyone heard any news?

It wasn't taken airside - I bumped into Tony about five minutes after he'd taken the shot!! At the end of 09R as I typed earlier!!

Are there going to be any concorde flights from heathrow on the 25th/26th October because i have school and i will never ever get to see it again. Hopefully i'll be allowed the day off to see it, but i doubt it :'( So yeah is there anything on that weekend. Also do you think it'll be flown at Farnborough 2004. That would be great as most of the aircraft flying over Farnborough fly over my house. Now that would be awesome.

If there isn't anything that weekend then i guess i'll have to put up with the weekend before. Unless i can bunk off school

Anyone wanting anymore collectables, there was an ad in 'The Sun' this morning (UK Newspaper) for a commemorative cover. This cover has actually been flown on Concorde, has an official Royal Mail Concorde stamp and includes a luxury presentation folder for £4.99. This is limited edition and only 10,000 have been made.

On the commemorative cover, there is a picture of Concorde, the date which this was flown aboard Concorde and where it came from: JFK - LHR.

To order, go to:

http://www.westminsterorders.com

I've already ordered mine  Smile/happy/getting dizzy.

I work at the London Terminal Control Centre, and there may  Smile be procedures in place for the arrival of three Concordes one after the other as previously speculated.

It's common knowledge that three Concordes are gonna hit the deck back to back, wind direction etc permitting. Please can we cut the cryptic crap like "there may be procedures".

G-CIVP,

As I work in a side of aviation, where I have to be careful about what is and is not put into the public domain, I have to be very careful about what I say.

I was merely trying to help, as there were several posts in this thread that were wondering about what the plans were.
To you it may be common knowledge but obviously to others it is not (Try reading the posts)

Thanks to your attitude I won't bother posting anything that people may find of use again and I won't divulge any further details about Concorde's last day.

Yeah, thanks a lot.. I think the smiley following the special procedures sentence hinted that a special treat was in order  Insane

So, who's going to LHR for the day? I see that SK has a return to LHR arriving early morning going back in the evening (around 7.30) for 1500 DKK, so I'll probably ask my dad for a small loan and book the tickets tomorrow.

Garry - Unfortunately there's been alot of speculation about what will happen on the 24/10. Alot of the information is fact, an awful lot isn't. I felt that using the term "there maybe be procedures" didn't add any clarity.

"Thanks to your attitude I won't bother posting anything that people may find of use again and I won't divulge any further details about Concorde's last day."

At the end of the day, that's your choice whether to post or not to post. It would seem your reluctant to do so anyway. Given that you've had a number of gripes about how the site is run, e.g. appeal procedure, its a bit rich to accuse me of influencing your decisions.

Jan and everyone else. There are mailing lists regarding LHR which will post detailed info. nearer the time.
