That's beautiful. Some of us could only wish for the right conditions to make a photo like that.  Big thumbs up

I agree, it's not totally sharp, but thank you mods for letting it get on! What an incredible shot. My new desktop background. Congrats to the photographer!

Double standards at there best yet again.

1) Great shot, YES. (More to the point its a FANTASTIC shot)

2) Sharp.... NO

If you sent a pic of any other aircraft these days it would have been REJECTED.

nice shot, sure, but how could you look at that as your desktop?

It looks like the PlayStation2 rendered it there are so many jaggies. These photos get accepted all the time, and while right time, right light, they aren't easy to look at.

I don't care about its lack of sharpness or whatever. It just looks great, enough so to be my new desktop as well.

BlatantEcho,

That shot is defiantly worthy to go on my desktop, its the worlds most beautiful machine, how could it look like a playstation?

N754pr,
Why are you critisizing other peoples work, that is probably the best concorde shot on here, by far! Who cares if it would of got rejected if it was a differernt aeroplane, the truth is ITS NOT! its concorde!!!

Are you that the screeners should change the acceptance criteria for Concorde?

As many have said this photo is not sharp and I am surprised it was accepted.

Well the lighting is great, angle is great and even though it is not sharp it is still pleasing to look at. But then again you're entitled to your own opinions.

Great shot!

The point is that many of us strife to get photos accepted here within strict quality criteria and this photo appears to contradict those criteria. Yes the lighting, positioning etc are good but it is not sharp. ( It looks like camera shake)
Had it been my photo I don't think I would have attempted to upload it.
I'll have to look back at all of my old Concorde photos and see what I can get away with now.

Another case of looking for reasons to accept rather than reasons to reject, but this case the right way round.

Yes there are problems with the picture - but there is lots good with it too: subject/light/composition. I'm all for high standards, but there is a risk of getting too anal about it. The fact that this picture captures the moment and mood very well is perhaps enough and IMHO a preferable shot to many technically excellent, but soulless shots of this bird.

Bottom line is the shot rises above its technical issues, as BTW do the majority of "great" pictures - almost any photo could be technically "improved". It is true that other, less dramatic, pictures with the same flaws would be rejected - and I think this is bcause "artistically" they don't rise above the mundane.

Please preserve us from a situation where pictures are judged solely on technicalities!

Cheers,

Colin

What amazes me is that after all these years and after thousands of Concorde pictures, we are gifted with something new and wonderful like this Concorde photo. When we think all the angles and light conditions were covered and that Concorde was photographed in every possible way, such a picture is made. Isn't photography a great challenge?

very nice, congratulations Harm.

I completely agree with you Luis. Just think - a month down the track we will be inundated with 'historical' shots of the 'out-of-service' Concorde. A year down the track we will still be trying to upload shots of this famous beast. 5 years down the track and it will be an absolute classic. The point I'm trying to make is that someone has managed to capture this beast from a different angle in different conditions - and it worked. You can't expect to send him back out there to do it again, it's probably the one and only chance he's ever got and ever will get! I know we shouldn't have a double-standard here, but c'mon guys...

Congrats on a truly great photo.

Soulman.

P.S. > Someone like Luis knows exactly how to experiment with the different lighting conditions available!

I absolutely agree. This is a stunning and wonderful shot that shows Concorde in all her magnificent glory. The lighting is perfect and the Heathrow approach angle excellent. Love it.

OK, it's a tad soft. OK, it has a few jaggies. But it took me a long time to notice those things - I was looking at the aircraft, not the photograph. If you know what I mean  Smile
Thank you to Harm and Airliners.net for allowing me to see that image. It's stunning, it's beautiful and it's fully justified that it's now in the database.

Besides, I bet Harm sells a LOAD of prints of that shot - and that can only be good for this website!! Big grin

ckw said: Yes there are problems with the picture - but there is lots good with it too: subject/light/composition. I'm all for high standards, but there is a risk of getting too anal about it.

Problem, as you well know Colin, is that we let in marginal or low quality (on the basis of an excellent composition, or lighting) and the next thing we know is we get a whinge-o-gram or an angry forum topic from some photographer who's submitted an also-ran picture that's got rejected saying "my picture is as good as [or better] than that - why don't you accept mine too." Sadly, these sitations are a case of damned if we do, damned if we don't.

True Andy - but I thought there was a simple solution to that ... the screeners just ignore such postings (and I'm not being sarcastic).

If we have got to the point where worthwhile shots are not to be added because they bend the rules and will upset some of our more petty members, then things have come to a sad pass. Yes, I know this sometimes means the screeners are in a lose-lose situation, but then you guys get the big bucks  Smile

Cheers

What possible problems would lead a screener to reject this? it is one of the last flights so it's historical...Very nice light.....cool moisture cloud over the wings......Screeners take it for what it is and how it makes you feel when you look at it...

To me it actually looks a bit over-sharpened.

Also, the photographer got a VERY rare shot too:

Hi gang,

Thanks a lot for the nice words! I have received many many E-mails on this photo, and I thank you all for that!

I could not believe my luck to be in a position to make this photo.
This was the very first time that I saw the Grand lady in action. I took a week vacation and stayed around at LHR to get some nice action shots on her. And boy, I could have dreamt to get better results!

Hmmm, I believe I almost got another episode of A.net standards soap started here  Nuts
I agree that this photo is not raizor sharp. It isn't. Furthermore I must be doing something wrong in the post processing since the printed version looks nicer. I also noticed after resizing to 1024x683 that quite some jaggies were introduced, which were much less noticeable on the 3072*2048 version. That though may have been caused by my monitor which is certainly not top of the range.

Anyhow I chose to upload this particular photo because it had the tree in lower front of the photo, which I thought created a nice setting combined with the low sun.
I have another photo that was taken a second or so earlier, which is sharper. I got a 30x45 cm print which looks absolutely stunning! This one requires maybe a little more attention in PS to get the best result, however you can see it here:
http://www.myaviation.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00011028
Do you think I should spend some more time on this one and have it re-uploaded?

Kind Regards,
Harm

BTW. Like I just mentioned in another thread, I managed to get a nice back lit shot, although this one is not as pin sharp and thus was rejected for badscan. I 'll take the opportunity to plug it here:
http://www.myaviation.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00011029

BTW2. No bad feelings Andy. I appreciate your input and your feedback [in your E-mail] to help me reach even higher standards.

Although the one with the tree is very nice, I would reupload the second one!

If you upload the second shot, would that not be considered a baddouble? I think the first one (in the database) is good on it's own merit.

Well done Harm

anyway, as is said before, it is not pinsharp, but defiently worth to get accepted ... , perhaps we are all bit jealous we didnt get here in that atmosphere...

How some of you manage to turn a thread pointing out a nice picture into a bitch-fest is beyond me. Stop being drama queens.

Acceptance here should jsut be about "Is it good or not?" Pictures that are unsharp or oversharp tend to not be good, but this one is gREAT.

I WODNERFUL shot. Whiners go home.

Nobody is turning this into a "bitch-fest" ( whatever that is) and nobody here denied it was a great shot but the photographer himself says it is not sharp which is all we were pointing out and therefore some possible inconsistency. And as Harm also pointed it out may be in the post processing - possibly over-processed.

From a personal point of view when I first saw the thumbnail I thought there's a nice photo but I was a bit disappointed when I opened it in the large size.

Still what do I know.
