Ryan - thanks for your feeback.

From the vibes at LHR today, the 'inner city' Met. Police were about, i.e moving photographers on. Whereas the normal LHR Police know what we're up to, the inner city guys don't. The latter tend to be a little more 'in yer face' and won't take any sh*t!!!

I hope everyone who comes to LHR on Friday, especially from Europe, that they have a good time and get the photo they want, but I get the feeling that it's going to be a lock-down situation.

ok, guys I have a plan.

Were not going to take any crap from some MET police, if they move us on, me fight back.......hmmmmm......maybe make a little riot. Could be a kinda cool thing to do, itll waste the time till the concordes arrive!!! Just a thought!

Indeed I am sure the road Concorde crossed will be closed for that occasion. There is a possible diversion so traffic can enter off the A30 and drive towards the terminals from Hatton cross. The diversion was in place on Sunday 12th from 09:00 for no apparent reason as the active runways(s) were heading 090.

In my short aviation photography experience I have found aviation buffs to be kind, tolerant and generally good honest people. I would hope the police realise this by allowing Concorde/aviation fans access to the approach for 27R and providing we allow vehicles though the roads unimpeded then there will be no cause to move us on or deny access.

Everyone go tooled up, it could get a little violent!  Smile I think the police dont realise how hard it would be to move 250000 people, by the time everyone has moved, the 3 concs would of landed, they should just let us stay!

Can we lose the fighting talk please? It's the end of Concorde but not the end of aviation. I still want to be able to take pictures around LHR after Friday and any confrontation between us and the authorities will just make it more difficult.

Yes it's an emotional day and yes it's not the way we would like to see Concorde say goodbye-but treat it as a challenge and try and be creative, the database doesn't need 100 straighforward shots of a Concorde on finals for 27R no matter how special the occasion.

Heathrow ATC put the BAW2 from NY and the Manchester Conc arrival side by side on 09L/09R for a simultaneous landing. Amazing! Well done LHR ATC!

Erm, it's the wifes birthday tomorrow but I'm still hoping to get the arrival from Cardiff on film and get video of the last flight to JFK. I want to see that white glow one more time as she soars out of 09R, I'll be on my bike but will be away from the crowd at my own spot for the take off. Expect me in the ILS field for the 09L arrival.

BBC still expecting easterlies until tomorrow night.

So, where are the best spots away from the airport to see the approach, which the BAA website actually mention? Even if one does not see the landing to just see the 3 in flight for the last time is quite good enough.

Whatever we all do on this day, please avoid open confrontation. It makes things far worse for everybody. Let us just go and in our own ways say farewell to this great plane.

an EXCELLENT place to see them away from the airport IF they will be coming in on 09L is a place called Jealots hill on the A3095 south of Maidenhead Access from juct 8/9 M4 Both the Bovingdon and Ockham stackes arrive at the point on the localiser. with good vis you get a 4 min shot of the Ockham arrival coming in and turning onto to loc and about a 3 min shot of the Bovingdon one,
Normally the JFK arr is Ockham, so on Fri that and the out and back will be from there and the EDI in from Bov. Should make a good view

The other direction i am not sure but would think the open spaces along the A316 would be a good bet (Richmond) I was in London in the Summer and saw thea arrival turn over Wandsworth, not sure where the northern arrivals would line up

Hope this helps

Something that I just saw which you might be interested in.

These are pictures of the radar screen as the 2 Concorde's are being vectored onto the localizer together.

FYI anyone going to LHR today, 09 runways are in operation.

There is a possible good spot for 27R arrivals about 2DME east of LHR where the A4 and A30 meet up, might be worth trying if you want to avoid the crowds.

Hi

Just came back from LHR. Couldn't be there this day (Friday)
This Wednesday, TWO CONCORDES arrived at the same time. They landed parallel on 09L and 09R. What a sight, but unfortunately it was too dark to get descent pictures. There was approx. 500-600 people at the end of 09L, and the pilots flashed with the light!

For anyone visiting LHR opperations are currently landing aircraft on 27R. This may change at 3.00 pm. But i suspect that due to the location of the stand i think they may leave the runway as it is !!!

No doubt we will be inundated with pics, but the queue is rather long right now and I think its just not going to happen that everyone gets their pictures on the database really quickly. In any case, the last take off or landing of a Concorde is still some weeks away, and will probably take place at Filton.

Hi all

Well, despite having the camera at work with me today and the 500mm lens, I still missed BOAE (the one I was on) fly over ABZ on her way to EDI.

I did see her trail up from the south, turn right into the North Sea then a circuit over the sea.

Tried to keep a look out as she passed over but while I did see the trail and hear the noise, I couldn't see her  Sad

Quite amazing as it seemed to route over my place of work before heading to EDI.

Never mind........next big event will be the A380  Wink/being sarcastic......another European masterpiece...he he  Wink/being sarcastic

Not quite the same though is it - can't help but feel the last bit of romance in air travel has gone. Somehow it seems the Brits have a knack with drop dead gorgeous aircraft - Concorde, Comet, VC10 ... too bad we aren't so good at the economics  Sad

Yes, I know that Concorde was Anglo-French, but looking at the pedigree of the French and British aviation industries, I can't help but think the looks came from my side of the channel  Smile ... though mind you the Caravelle wasn't bad.

ok peeps, just this minute got back from LHR

An estimated 250 000 people went to LHR, it was amazeing, and didnt seem busy!!! The 3 concordes all on approach was awesome, words cant describe what I saw. It was a really good atmosphere though, as when they landed we all clapped and cheered. There was no trouble and the poilce were excellent, although you wasnt allowed close to the fence, but that was understandable. Half of the met must of been there, all you could see were green jackets!!!

Today, was a very sad day, I had a lump in my throat.
Hopefully, ill upload a video of the 3 approaches later on tomorow, with some basic pictures, will let you know when there done.
Anyway, going to get something to eat, im really hungary!

I think everyone regrets not going now, as there definately was room to see the last take off and last 3 landings.

After they all had landed, they had a water canon salute........it was sooo cool. As i said, ill try and get the video up very shortly, keep you all informed.

From my vantage point it was nowhere near as busy as it was supposed to be. I think a lot of people took BAA's advice and didnt turn up. I would guess there were approx a few thousand people around the 27R threshold for the landing, but still plenty of room to move about. The only chaos caused was when BAA decided to shut the road from the 27R r/b to Hatton Cross, it was all going so well untill then  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Funny thing was everyone waiting at the end of 27L for the EDI departure, those of us at the end of 27R were well prepared and the mass exodus was quite funny to watch  Wink/being sarcastic

Yes it was a bitter-sweet occasion today. I was there too. 250 000 people!? Wildly exaggerated. Not more than about 3000 people were at the 27R threshold looking on and that itself may be a bit high. Quarter of a million people - do they actually know how many people that is?

I got many pics too but these were with my SLR (not digital) so they will need to be developed.

As for the police, I think they did a good job and kept a good semblance of order - although of course when the planes actually came in they relented somewhat and so cars froze in the street and, when the last one came, people ran across the road to the perimeter fence (which had been declared off-limits earlier) to shoot the final landing. Most people co-operated with the cops but a few "hard-heads" were around.

It was a great day and a fond send-off for our Queen of the Skies. Farewell Concorde.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned here, but there is an audio-file of Speedbird 002, as it descends into LHR... A very interesting and moving piece...

Found at:

http://www.lhr-lgw.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/maingroup/concorde_rt.htm

Notable is a sequence starting at 7 mins. 00 secs., where the pilot of BA002 gives thanks to those that came out to see them takeoff and land during the last months.
