These were rejected for either to light or to dark. They are supposed to dark.
I am trying to show the sunset colors which makes the forground subject dark...

They are too dark Paul. You nailed 'em. Are you asking should you appeal them?

The problem isn't that they are too dark, the problem (I think) is that half of the picture is purely black, it gives no info to the viewer and is just not interesting.

Next time you should try getting a little less of the ground, and more of that beautiful sky.

Great shots!

I am asking why they got rejected I have seen many pictures with the sunset behind the picture, and they are all dark.

Vitaly answered correctly. There isn't enough sky, and the rest is just black.

Yup its not the plane being almost black, but more the ground being there.
The whole idea of taking these pics is showing a silhouette of a plane with loads of nice colors in the background. So having them up in the skies is a better way to go.

The difference between Your pics and the ones You included above ist, that the ones above showl all black planes, but You can see the total plane, even look through the cockpit, there is still the plane clearly visible.
In Your pics, You have great sunset colors, but the plane is merging with the ground to some black area.
If the contour of the plane would be completely visible, it would be a great shot.

Give my greetings to Nashville! I miss Flying Saucers...

I agree with the last. The color and drama is all there but the shape, the silhouette of the plane is obscured by other (dark) objects in the background. A silhouette is all about the border shape.
