Your Camera

Fri Aug 20, 2004 4:03 am

Hey, Im saving up for a new digital camera. Currently have a 2MP from Kodak! Sucks! I was just wondering what cameras other people here use. I know the rebel is popular, but what would a good p&s camera be?

I'm still shooting slides with a Canon EOS 33. I don't upload enough on the web
to justify the purchase of a digital camera

If you're going for P&S I'd suggest the Canon S1 IS. Only 3.2 mp but the image stabilitation and 380mm equivelent zoom makes up for it in my opinion. If you have more money to spend, go for the gold and buy a DSLR.

The 300D is a great starter system if you're new to DSLRs. With the launch of the 20D, the prices of used 300Ds are dropping pretty quick. A basic system including the body, the 18-55mm and the 75-300 can be purchased from around US$1000. This is a bigger investment than a high end point and snap like the Canon S1 mentioned but it's a lot more flexible and there always room for growth should you decide to upgrade your lenses in the future.

I'm shooting film still. I just bought a Nikon N75, which seems like a decent camera considering its $250. If you want point and shoot but with quality, get the N75, it has an "auto" feature that basically turns it into a SLR point & shoot. Anders, what slide film are you using?

I would recommend the Canon EOS 10D. The eos 300/rebel does not handle anywhere near as good. However I have read here today that Canon are bring out the new EOS20D which looks incredable for the money

I shoot with a Canon D30 with a 100-400L IS mounted.

There are only two of us here that shoot with that combination AFAIK.

(D)SLRs are SO overrated...

...but I'm fed up with this thing. Onwards and upwards. There's a 10D somewhere with my name on it.

Maybe you should also have a look at the Minolta Dimage Z2. I don't have one but I've seen some decent photos here on A.net. It's price might be right for you.

Regards.

The Dimage Z2 has a 10x optical zoom just like the C-700 series and the Canon Powershot S1. The Canon lens has an Image Stabilizer (IS) which is a plus even though it's a 3.2 MP camera.

Regards.
