Well, after calling in one of the first 150 preorders a week ago and dropping off a check this past Sunday, I'd hope I came away with something in a decent amount of time. Keyword: something

Yep, have the Canon EOS 20D. Sitting right infront of me. What a perfect beast. Nothing else though...no lenses, no CF, one battery, and no case. Another week or two, I presume.

All the salesmen in the store were hovering over it when I took it out of the box, and I had fun mounting some L on it at the counter. Granted, the salesman ended up using it more than I did, but hey, with it being as light as the Digital Rebel with watered down 1D MkII innards, I can't blame him.

This thing is great. Can't wait to complete the set and head out each weekend. I've started to bounce between the 100-400 or a telephoto prime (400/5.6 or 300/4 IS), but I'll let that blow over.


Bottom line. Thanks to Josh, the Matts, Phil, Art, Bill, Jeff, Vitaly, Chris, Wietse and others for putting up with god knows what from Futt. Really. Thanks.

However, I warn everyone lusting for the 20D...after checking it out...well, it SUCKS. I'm incredibly disappointed. If you want this camera, keep looking. Horrible. Terrible. Absolutely, undeniably atrocious.

I feared the day when I'd have ot compete with Futterman. The boy has the eye, all he needed was the equipment to back it up.

And will someone tell him that it's not good for the camera with just turn it on and hold down the shutter for no reason while there's noo lens on it jsut to hear what it sounds like over and over. It hurts to hear over the phone. :-p

Having originally preordered from Ritz, I quickly ordered from B&H and managed to get it shipped before they close for the holiday. Woohoo!

So you've got a camera with no lenses...that should be fun. Just don't stroke your new camera too much or else you might not be able to use it when you finally do get some lenses. Oh wait...that's someone else we know that likes to fondle cameras (hint: medication).

I bought the D20 today and would like to know if the charger that came with it(which charges the BP-511A battery), can also be used to charge the older BP-511 batteries? And vice versa.

I have a few expensive Pentium-keyrings and have become a little cautious.

No lens sucks. I might stiff one from Phil this weekend for a few hours ( ). Financing the rest of the equipment via my parents is also another option I have to discuss.

For all the Nikon guys out there. Somebody said a while ago that you must have an inferiority complex. I'd expect it from Cancidas (who buys a DSLR to use someone else's lenses?). Whatever the case, to each his own. Go huddle around your new D2x if you're getting cold in this mind-blowingly cool thread.

Peter, the included CG-580 charger is compatible with all BP-500 series batteries. Congrats to you, too, on the 20D. Impressive, eh? Now leave it in the box until I have my first upload.  

As for samples, hopefully some in the next few days. Looking forward to shooting ISO 1600/3200 and getting on A.net. I'm just worried that someone will beat me...

AS for lenses, Me and Futt talked a little on this, and due to the restraints of finance options for the tons of lenses the little sh!t wants (hahaha - I'm just messin futt!), I offered the 50-500 from Sigma!

I told him that if he'd keep the reciept and keep it in good shape and stuff, he might just live with it until he can make some more money to buy his 1-400L glass...

I thought it'd be a good idea because it covers most of the necessary ranges and that the only problem would be the wide angle zoom...but who needs that anyway? (sarcastic)....

FUTT - BUY THE 50-500 , love the cam, respect the Bigma.

Have you considered Sigma or Tamron Glass? I think they are less expensive and have Canon Mounts. Ive used a 10D with a Sigma lens and the photos were very nice. Consider it.

Yeah, Sigma and Vitaly's Bigma proposal make tons of sense. I'm comfortable with what I've wanted, though, and if I can skip the middle man (50-500/temporary lens)...I sure as hell will.

Congrats for your new camera. I can say that I am a bit jealous but on the other hand I am happy with my 300D so far. Keep the good shots coming, the camera does not make the photographer but I am sure that it helps a lot!

That was a 500mm F/4...

The camera, of course... But,I dont have the no lens problem. I am happily shooting with my 300D, and when I order my 20D at the end of January, I already have my lenses.

I'll nitpick. Not more than twice have I called you at 7AM (note: when we were to be picking you up in a matter of minutes). This camera has been on my agenda for the past year, and when I got wind that I'm this much closer to making it happen, I (rightfully so) got enthusiastic. Deal with it. And, I naturally project my voice more than others, usually unnecessarily. Now, though, I do have something to shout at you about.

You have every right to dislike me. But when it comes to the point where you're no longer mature about it, and do it on such a frequent basis that OTHER people begin to notice (on an INTERNET FORUM), you've taken it too far. Your plan to make me look stupid has fatally backfired.


If you can't handle the personality of a 16 year old like myself--if I'm too loud, jumpy, excited, whatever--so be it. I know hard drugs and alcohol are known to make one irritable (I've never done them), but just keep it to yourself, because frankly, I, nor anyone else want to hear your complaints about me.

When I first met you about a year ago, I thought you were a pretty cool guy. And I still do when I think about certain aspects. While I've been able to successfully take the relationship I created with others soley based on aviation and turn them into something a little more personal, I have not and now will not do the same with you.

I suggest that you thoroughly read this and make an appropriate reply. Show off what you have. When I compare the Matt I meet in real life with the Cancidas I know on the forums, they're not the same guy, and that gets on my nerves. You're both book smart and street smart, but now I'm beginning to wonder.

I am thrilled for you. I did not have the patience to wait, and bought the 300D back in the winter. Do I regret not waiting???... no.......well, maybe. You'd better get a high paying job real fast, because you now have a bad case of glass fever. I also heard on another website that the D in the Canon DSLR line stands for DEBT.
