I think it's dark, and soft. Brighten up the shot a bit, then hit it with a little USM (200%, .2 radius, 0 threshold.)

Quoting D L X (Reply 2):

I shot this in RAW format and left the levels alone since they reached both ends, but did not apply any adjustment to the brightness/contrast. The photo had one pass of USM (300%, 0.2, 0) to a duplicate layer. I will say that the sun was about 5 minutes from going below the horizon.

Is this version better?

No its still no good. It's too washed out by that prominent yellow colour cast.

I've had a bit of a play with the levels, mainly to see if I could remove some of that yellow.

I'm still not totally happy with the shot, but you get the idea.

Are you talking about on the aircraft or around the aircraft? If you want the original RAW file to mess around with just let me know.

I think the major problem is the shot looks soft. The following is my edit.

Yeah I know the shot is soft, but even if it wasn't, I would doubt it'll get anywhere with the colour cast it has. Thats what I'm trying to say.

Not a great result, but I tried to take out this yellow color cast (and I think I wasn't too happy)... Anyway just trying to help since this is a great plane photo  Smile

Since it's a sunset photo, there should be *some* orange cast on the plane. The way I determine correct white balance for the shot is using Camera Raw, I put the white balance tool on a spot on the plane that I know to be white/grey that is in the shadow of something. That way, all the light that is falling on it is ambient, and not orange glow from the setting sun.
In this shot, I'd measure off the white part of the fuselage in the shadow of the spoilers.

Agreed, where Fhlaran's version is just a little too extreme!! I think just a little bit of the yellow removed, as I was trying to show will do the trick. Making the aircraft white, also causes that weird effect around other areas.

Sharpen the shot as mentioned, remove some of the yellow, just enough that it looks a little more natural and less washed out and it should be ok.

Do you have the original .crw file? I'm curious to see it.
