2007 has been a weird year for aviation photography for me. This is the first year where I really haven't had a home airport, and going between IAH, AUS, and SAT was a weird deal. So I just decided to skip Texas altogether and choose a shot from Airventure!

It's always an incredibly fun time to look back on, and this was my favorite shot from Airventure '07 - Can't wait for next year!

I tried to define this year more by quality than by quantity, and for the year of '07 I only had 27 photos added out of about 60 uploaded, and I think out of that my favorite would have to be:

Because of what it represents to me: hangin out with friends at the airport on great summer evenings.

I've been a little inactive lately and have around 25 photos from this year.

Here's my choice, even though it was taken in the last days of 2006, uploaded and accepted in 2007:

It was Labor Day weekend and due to the holiday schedule, we had two extra planes on deck for a total of 13 RONs that night. The airport allowed us to squeeze them in to the tight alley overnight. I assisted in parking the aircraft and thought, wow...this would make a cool picture! I struggled to get the proper angle that would get all three aircraft in the frame. It was tricky, but I pulled it off. I uploaded it thinking it was a long shot and to my surprise, it was accepted. Big grin

This has been a year of GA for me - can’t seem to get a commercial aircraft photo accepted to save my life. Attended a couple of local air shows and the opening of a new air museum so I had quite a few new regs to contribute the DB.

My favorite photo of the year was taken at a fly-in in Kelso, Washington. The light was marginal but the sun would occasionally break out of the clouds. I was shooting with a new 10-20mm lens and was hoping to get some interesting effects. I liked the way the lighting and the wide-angle view came together in this shot.

Fantastic images everyone!

I'd pick this one. Weather was not really good hence the boring background but it is a shot I really wanted to get especially since the T-Birds are a rare sight in Europe!

Thierry reminded me that seeing the An-22 and getting a photo of it accepted here was a 2007 highlight for me, too.

But I guess the picture that gave me the most satisfaction when I saw it in was this one.

It took some effort to track down this aircraft, and while the people at the lasergaming hall were so kind as to let me photograp it, I had to work fast before the next group came in. So I could only pull of a few shots from one angle, yet I was happy with the result. It's hardly an aviation photograph maybe, but that does make it stand out here on a.net.

Because it has been my only "photographers choice" and "top hits of the last 24 hours".

It was shot with a 24mm lens and allmost not cropped at all, only a little since there was some open space in front of the nose.

We were meeting up with a few photographers, but the weather turned out to be really bad. However, I got to fire some shots with a 1DII+300 2.8 combo and this came in front of my lens. Still happy with the way it turned out.

Best part of all.... this is the exact same aircraft that brought me in from YYZ a couple of hours earlier Big grin Big grin Big grin

The fact is, you could have taken this shot as good with your 30D+50-500 combo; I think that would be a piece of cake with your skills. Big grin

2007 has been about quality, not quantity. I've barely had time to go to the airport and shoot at all, but what I have managed to squeeze in has been good. This would probably be a highlight for me:

I would have to go with this one for several reasons. It's a really great aircraft, very well maintained and quite rare to this airport. The shot was taken airside and the clarity of it couldn't have been any better in my opinion. Every last detail is high-lighted by the B&W and evening light shining down the fuselage. I really like this shot, definitely my favourite of 2007.

I've had just over 200 photos accepted so far this year, compared to my 60 of 2006 and 14 of 2005. I've attended many air shows this year, expanded my photography and purchased a Bigma 50-500mm lens.

Looking over my photos accepted this year I must pick this photo; taken at Yeovilton International Air Day 2007. Why do I choose this one? Well, It just stands out alot, it's an action-photo and I've also had it published in a book... and some may say it shows the kind of hard work our Army does.

It's my first shot accepted with my new DSLR.

Note: it's messed up and won't show my actual picture. It shows an AA 727 on the thumbnail, then on the Large it shows an F-16. Maybe the DM people will finally fix it. Only the Medium version works correctly  Sad

Merry Christmas guys. Awesome shots everybody, Hope you guys get some great shots in '08. I'm praying for a wicked airshow season.

The overwhelming majority of my work is air to air and 2007 marks the first year I've started seriously shooting from terra firma. This shot from Nellis is my favorite ground to air shot to be accepted in 07.
