Thu Dec 20, 2007 1:55 pm

Hi all,

With the snowflakes falling on the homepage, it's time to show us your favourite own photo of the year again.

- Your favourite photo shot by you and accepted here in 2007
-Only ONE photo.

And please tell why it's special to you.

I'll post my own later on.

Merry X-mas

I like the heli showing real action and also cause I had to wait very very long for the helicopter to come back and was close to the action.

Hi,

first time for me to get a TriStar in action. It's one of my favourite planes and when I was on the way to the airport I didn't expect to get it because the train had more than 1 hour delay.

This was a good year for me - my #1 shot on A.net (Air Canada 777 cockpit) was taken in April of this year, and I also got my first-ever cabin shots accepted here this year. It was also a good year for my home airport, Hartford/Springfield, CT's Bradley Airport, with new service on Frontier and our first scheduled transatlantic flight on Northwest to Amsterdam. Still, the visit of an A380 to BDL in October takes the cake for me. This is not a spectacular photograph, but hey, it's an A380 in Hartford. That should speak for itself:

This is a shot I have wanted for a very long time. Always been a huge fan of this scheme on this 'frame, and I took it on a kick ass three-day tour in LA with my best friend, torching Route 66, met the fine folks at Demand Media, got to meet lots of new friends and took a ton of photos.

1. It wasn't taken in the Bahamas.

2. My son was having a better-than-usual time while I was snapping photos, for this one was taken out of the giant ferris wheel at the Deutsch-Franzoesisches Volksfest.

3. TXL just happens to be one of my favourite airports, and I didn't get to see much of it this trip, as I arrived at and departed from SXF.

Mine is probably this one... A spotting trip to Milan, which was good, except that to get to that spot, I had to walk for more than 2 hours, but the results were worth it and MD11 is probably my most favourite aircraft...

I chose this one because it is my favorite plane and will always be since my grandpa flew in one during Vietnam. It was also my 50th photo in the DB and one of my few 1600px shots.

The one and only time I caught the Jaguar at low level before they were retired from service. Also the first aviation photo I have had published - in a book called Big Cat Diary by Wing Commander John Sullivan the last OC of 6 Sqdn RAF.

I finally got one of those new filmless cameras this year and, I have to say, it makes everything a lot easier! This shot presents some of the magic that abounded at the (probably last ever) "Gathering of Mustangs & Legends".

My Concorde pic made top of the day earlier this year, but I am going to pick another one because it is the first image I ever had accepted here with my own editing. All the others were edited with the help of other A.netters and getting my own work-flow proven effective was a great feeling.

Hard decision for me.. had the luck catch some fuel dumping in 2006 and uploaded the shot this year, but I think this MD11 from FRA this summer is my favourite.. Drove past FRA and only had a quick stop when I finally got this shot short before leaving....

A special year in photography for me, as I just recently started taking pictures of aircraft again, after years of neglect. The new camera is also my first DSLR ever, so I'm still just at the beginning of finding out what is possible with on one side the camera, on the other side photo editing software.

This shot I was really pleased with.

Difficult to choose one, but probably it would have to be this one. I went there exactly with this idea in mind, and at the right moment this Lan A319 came in for landing. As it happened, this one became also my first 'left for Johan'...

That's a tough one, especially as I just realized I have no more than 13 images accepted which were taken in 2007.

I'll go with this one, as I had an awesome time riding the CJ2, and the people and friends I made that day are just awesome. I actually was on vacation with friends when they called me if I'd fancy a ride, so I took the train home 6hrs in the morning, flew with them in the afternoon and rode back another 6hrs in the evening....quite a journey  Smile

This is the one I first thought of:

It came in twice, both times for refuel. the first time I marshalled it (which doesn't happen every day of course!) before I had to do some other things. The second time I had the chance to take a few photos, the sun was out, the conditions were fine. During the refuelling the pilots took their time to tell us about the helicopter and we were allowed to get on it and see into the cockpit. Really friendly crew on board that day.

Taken at my favourite and most troublesome spot at LGW. I just love the reflections on the tail and the angle at which it was taken.

Just to even have the opportunity to take this pic is what makes it so special. What would have been only a two-hour drive to MCI under normal conditions turned out to be almost double that, and almost a missed flight, due to icy highways & winter weather conditions. Now that might not be as big of a deal to you folks who are used to the more temperate climate, but I'll put it in perspective: The very first time I had actually seen real snow was just two days earlier, and the closest thing I had ever come to experiencing an icy pavement up until that point was when they dumped the Zamboni machine in the parking lot of the ice skating rink on a hot summer day.  Big grin

So to say that this 110-mile drive in below-freezing temperatures, with ice across every inch of it, was a very humbling experince...is an understatement.  Wink

I have no idea why I like this shot so much, but I do. Maybe it's the evening light or something. Or the fact that people here said motive was going to get it rejected, but it got in anyway. I don't know. But I like it.  Smile

My first views of the beautiful island of Mauritius and my first ride in an Airbus A340-300. The holiday was excellent, getting to dive with big sharks in open water and my first dives in the Indian Ocean / southern hemisphere. And to top it off, I was allocated a seat in the upper deck of the Air France 747-400 we travelled home on. My first ride in the 744. The holiday was planned well in advance and everything was just perfect. You always remember your first view's so that photo will always remind me of those 2 weeks of paradise.

It came too early (it's brighter at the scheduled 3:30 AM arrival time than 2:50 AM), I had mode 1 selected on my 100-400 (not the panning mode), I was half-asleep, so it was difficult to handhold, and I selected a too slow speed... still I got the shot, and though it's blurry, I'm satisfied. Fun to shoot from my garden too.  Also it was my first time seeing a Mustang at RKV and also my first time seeing a Mustang since Flying Legends 2003 at Duxford.

Nice pics in this thread, a bit ashamed of posting this.

I wasn't sure if this or the departure shot the day later was my favourite photo of the year... the other one was also lucky... I was woken up by this nice sound of the Merlin, and figured out that I had missed the takeoff I had been planning to shoot, but as the Pilatus that was also flying Bolero II had some problems with the engine, they came back, and I got a shot of them both taking off.

Give us more warbirds to RKV!

The first, and so far only, time I had an image make "Top of the last 24 Hours." And to be honest, I didn't have fantastic expectations of it at first. Every aspect of that photo, from when I took it, to the conditions, to the editing was pure luck. Therefore, it is my favorite shot of the year. Big grin

I look forward to a great 2008!

The visitor of 2007 at Munich Airport and while I also took photos of it taxiing in daylight I wanted to try something new with this (for airliners.net quite common) aircraft. So I decided to take a night shot of it, waited for another aircraft to approach and create some beautiful trails of light, and snapped this picture.

My first "Left for Johan" also  Wink

The next frame in this sequence was IMO a better shot in so many ways but the youngster in the back seat was clearly identifiable so I "self-rejected".
The obvious excitement and joy at what was likely their first helo ride was one of the highlights of a great day.

It shows the A380, that i had the pleasure to be on on the LH Route Proving to JFK, as well as the CRJ 900,
i fly fly myself and which i really love.

It is also a good shot to compare sizes...

As a bonus it shows the first and so far only visit of an A380 to Munich, my home Airport.

Let´s all hope that 2008 will bring great photo opportunities for us all,

I missed the An-22 on several occasions before and have been "hunting" it for over 2 years; having it then parked in LUX for several days really was great luck for me.
The result was (in all modesty  Wink) the best An-22 nightshot I've seen so far and also the first photo to which a screener left a personal note upon its acceptance to the db (Thanks again for the kind words Tim!).
